Hi there, I'm 31 years old and was just diagnosed... going through chemo as we speak and trying to have many, many more good days than bad! It would be great to be able to meet up with some people in teh same boat, and help support each other.

Best wishes, and lots of prayers and hugs to everybody out there :)

Nicole

    Cancer Survivor in DC
    Nicole,

My name is Ben Hartman. I had a malignant tumor removed from my salivary gland this past June. Six weeks post-op, I began chemo and radiation. Chemo and radiation lasted 6 weeks: radiation every weekday and chemo once a week. I finished treatment on August 31st. I received treatment in Minnesota, where my family lives. I'm back in DC now and would be happy to meet up with you to discuss life during and after treatment.

The two biggest assets for me were Hope and Youth. With the exception of having cancer(just a minor detail), I'm a healthy 34 year old, which was one of the reasons I was able to rebound well from treatment. I did have bad days, but they were mild compared to my counterparts who were twice my age and receiving the same treatment ( I lived with other cancer victims at Hope Lodge, which provides free housing to patients receiving cancer treatment.) You're only 31 so you're all set from an age perspective (We can also discuss what it's like to be in your 30s with cancer). Hope was invaluable in this process. Throughout the entire process, and to this day, I remained hopeful because my docs assured me that this could turn out alright. I wasn't looking for a miracle. I just wanted to know that I had a fighting chance.

    My email address is benjaminjhartman@gmail.com

    Good Luck,
    Ben
