Tongue-tied?

in Breast Cancer #1
Okay, not sure if I can blame this on Chemo brain or perhaps Menopausal brain fog but I feel like I get my words mixed up and they come out sounding like I'm tongue-tied. I can carry on a conversation but it just seems like I've noticed it getting to be a little more often that I "mix" words. I feel okay, and I know what I'm trying to say which makes it more frustrating.

I'm 6 years out of chemo so I just don't know if it's part of the long term effects. I'll mention this to my doctor and see what she wants to do. I just didn't know if anyone else has experienced this.

    Short and sweet...
    No offense intended, but it's probably just die to age...I try to blame everything on chemo, which I am back on, or the brain rads I had in March...but my husband "gently" reminds me of my age...61....lol

    Best to check it out with your doctor, to be safe...

    I feel like this too! I call it dyslexia of the tongue - I also get it when I type here! When I look at people, I seem to get one of their initials but not the whole name. I feel like I need an interpretor. I'm so glad I'm not alone in this!

    Not sure how old you are but
    Not sure how old you are but could be just age...!

    I never had chemo so I do not have any experience....or suggestions

    Karen: funny..,.while reading the post I thought of my DYSLEXIC DAUGHTER, as well her is ADD (hubby and other daughter too) Very Poor word recall etc..

    Sylvia, you and I could form the "Tongue-Tied Sisters," and take our act on the road!

    I'm 2 1/2 years out from chemo, and that's the one and only cognitive issue that's never completely gone away -- I definitely mix up my words more often than I did before treatment -- often enough that I notice it, but not so much that it really hinders my communication.

    I'm nowhere near menopause, but am on Tamoxifen, which definitely plays fast and loose with my hormones. AND I'm now a "Woman in Her 40s," instead of a "Woman in Her 30s." AND I never discount how much the simple stress of being a cancer survivor can affect our brains and our bodies.

    For me, it hasn't gotten any worse, and, in every other way, my brain seems to be online and operating normally (for a woman my age :-), so, for now, I've decided not to worry about it.

    I say we go for it Traci!
    We won't even have to try to amuse the audience. We can just have a normal conversation and it would be funny.

    I'm 52 so I'm definitely PAST menopause. I'm noticing it more now at 6 years out as opposed to 2-3 years out. Sadly, I agree. Age has something to do with it.

    Some of those word combinations are hilarious! I need to start writing them down. I just might invent a language all my own. And when I key, I sometimes revert the spelling in a word.

    I think I'll wait it out. I see my onc in November so I'll mention it to her.

    I understand what you're saying because this is happening to me.I didn't need chemo or radiation(Stage 0) but I am forgetting and getting tongue tied.I'm taking tamox and have for 2 1/2 years so if it's that the symptons are just starting or getting worse but I now realize something is wrong.My husband brought it to my attention and has said this more times than I would like to count."Honey I hate to tell you this but you are getting forgetful". I am but I blame it on me trying to do to much and getting all frustrated.But then maybe that is the tamoxifin???? I just hope it gets better because I'm 65 and I don't want this to progress.

    I guess I shoud mention it to my doctor.I just hope that I can finish this tamox.I dont want to go off it.My friend is a 18 year survivor and she took tamox and another pill for 5 years after that.She forgot things but she didnt care.She said if there was anothre pill like those she would take it for another 5 years. She still works at 65.

    I do this but am not sure why, I wonder if it was the chemopause. its really embarrassing when I forget what I am saying mid sentence too LOL

    I didn't have chemo but
    I didn't have chemo but blame mine on either radiation or the tamoxifin I started in December ... I am 56 and my main problem lately is I cant remember people's names which drives me crazy and i forget stuff lately like where I parked the car or what I had planned to do tomorrow.... but scared to stop the tamoxifin because of that I am still feeling good and just have learned to deal with these issues and laugh about them Sue D

    We call them Renaism's in my home because I lose my words so much that I just describe things, its like an impromptu guessing game! You have to embrace what you cannot change, we have fun with it, I'll say pass me the white stuff and I get the salt, or I'll say you know the things you sit in...a chair. My best to you my friend!

    Ah, yes -- the Describing Things Game!
    My conversations sometimes turn into something like that scene from When Harry Met Sally: "You know, the place where we saw the thing with the thing from the other place?"

    My girlfriend (who is very much in the throes of menopause) has kind of given up on nouns altogether: Everything/everybody is now "whatsit," "whatchamacallit," and "whosherface."

    Given that my girlfriend and I have the SAME name...if I ever become "WhosHerFace," THEN I'll start to worry....
