update on mum

Hi all, Well this thing really is like a roller coaster! As you may know, mum is not having any more chemo and we are taking each day as it comes, we desperatly want her to feel better now she is off the chemo but it is not how we expected things to be, mum is on anti sickness meds and Morphine patches, she has just finished her steroids and now her appetite has decreased, she was soooo very tired all the time that her hospice nurse gave her amphetamines which of course also suppress the appetite! Some days they give her a pick up and other days they don't, yesterday she could hardly speak and she was like she was drugged up, totally unable to keep her eyes open! One thing that seems to make quite a difference to her wellbeing is keeping her bowels active, she is always better when she has been to the toilet, she now has something to help with this so fingers crossed that works. Does anyone have any experience with the matter of exhaustion, the nurse said the cancer can cause it but can it really make you that bad? Also mum always seems to show an infection when she has a blood test but it has never really been determined what it is, surely that can't help the way she feels either, we do feel that all her feelings just get put down to the cancer and not looked into, I know they can only do so much but they don't have to see their mum feeling like crap most days.

Thanks for listening, any imput would be most apprieciated, SueX

    Exhaustion
Wanttogetwell soon here. I've changed my name to my actual own. Yes.. is the simple answer. The actual illness can cause exhaustion. I'm not sure what helps. Often the nurses and doctors I come across say silly things like stay more active when they know I can't. Frustrating. There may be another cause, however, so I think blood results may show something and a remedy might then be prescribed which could help. Keeping the bowels active is esential to the feeling of wellbeing which you will see I've always said from my post history. My thoughts are very much with you Stella.

    Hi Patsie
Thank you for your reply, you are so right about "Bowels"! Mum has always had sluggish bowels but we have been more and more convinced that going every 3rd day was not helping mum as she is now, we nagged her to ask her nurse for something to help and she now goes most days! Fingers crossed since then ( it has only been a short while ) she has been a lot better in herself X

I just think her body is
I just think her body is needing a break. I know she must be tired from the whole thing period. Mentally and physically. Mom is definitely in a better frame of mind if she doesn't have to worry about not going to the bathroom. That is very good!
