having a really hard time

in Lung Cancer #1
with anxiety the past few days, and it's not for the usual scan results, that everyone including myself gets, this is for the results of a rather extensive blood test. I'm on the 6 mos. cycle, for scans, been in remission for 2 yrs. 9 mos., and all scans have been clear. but see him every 3 mos. for physical exams, (next scan in Sept.) What really has thrown me off guard here is he has never done this before, I can only suspect his reasoning to be possible bone mets but doesn't want to say without confirmed test results. It would of been easier to tolerate mentally had he stated his reasons for it, that way one could at least mentally brace oneself for the bomb. I could be jumping the gun too which I sure hope is the case, but I just have that nagging suspicion. I see him tomorrow to hear the verdict, which I'm extremely nervous about. I've done so well throughout this journey, grateful to have made it this far, mindful of knowing things could of been worse, I guess all of us feel that same way. I guess there always comes a point where there's a new twist in the road that you would rather not take when you have this disease, (NSCLC) or any cancer for that matter.     With all the new research and testing, maybe he wanted to do the blood test to catch anything at all early. I know they can tell a lot from the blood. I have blood work every 6 months with my oncologist. I hope that tomorrow will come soon for you so you may get your answers. Are you having any symptoms? I have you in my prayers for only great news. Lori

    Thanks Lori, I appreciate the prayers, and well wishes. It's a relief for me to learn that your Onc. does blood testing, I didn't think they did that, left that in the hands of the primary Drs. to do, so I'm comforted by that. As far as having symptoms, I have noticed that I have been experiencing some joint pain, especially when I go to get up after sitting for a while, also some numbness, that quickly goes away once I get moving, I figured it to be residual long term effects from chemo, It seems to be a common complaint on the forums for those treated with carboplaten and taxol, which was my drug, but not of choice. Think it's safe to say that for all us here. Anyway, thanks for the support and encouragement, you have truly helped. Stay well.

    My onco does blood ...
    ... every time I visit. If your guy has never done this before, maybe he's just thinking it's time to take a look. Re. the joint pain, you could just be developing some arthritis, and blood work would be called for in that case, also. I would definitely counsel against borrowing trouble. Heck, we have enough as it is, right?

    that your Onc.does too, maybe it is just as you said.....It's time to take a look. I guess with the not knowing why he was doing this, as he didn't say only seems to breed the very thing we don't need "trouble" we sure do have our share. Thanks for the input, and very sound advice, one thing for sure, I'm not doing this again, that is unless I have a validated reason.

    Hi everyone, wanted to extend many thanks for the well wishes, positive thoughts, but mostly the great support. The blood work that I got myself completely worked up over turned out to be fine, everything was within normal range! I am soooooo relieved. I can certainly see how anxiety can take you to places you don't want to go, if you let it. Coco said it best."anxiety can be worse than the lung cancer at times" Thanks again, stay well my friends.

    Good news in deed. The next time he does something different ask him why. You deserve to know. If you don't think to ask right away, call the office and talk to his nurse. Doctors can help you better when the communication goes both ways.
