I'll steal this thought from Iceman. ( something about vacations) Who here is not scared? Reality check..... Point is, recover and put yourself in a position to do something for yourself. Most of us have and still place our families, jobs, and responsibilities far ahead of our own needs..... Now, some call it a bucket list. Not me. But considering I recieved the opportunity to spend another summer alive, I just had a hell of a week in New Hampshire on my motorcycle. Riding, camping, and I saw my first MOOSE!!!!!! Good enough? Not quite. I'm gonna be camping in up state New York Wed-Sun. Then way north in Vermont in the middle of July. Motorcycle camping with friends in northeast America in the summer. For me, I LOVE it!!!!!!!!!! so,....whatcha all doing for yourselves?

    Moose. Old stuff. Been there done that more times than I can count. Even paddled up to them and sat and watched on at least 3 occasions from a canoe length or 2 away. My alter ego writes about them as the Destination Expert for Algonquin Park on Tripadvisor. Read his list of things to do in Algonquin Park. His name is Thorntree.

    Lake Michigan
    I spent last week in a vacation home on a bluff over lake michigan - it was perfect weather! 600 ft of private beach, wildlife everywhere, though no moose were spotted we did see plenty of deer and a bear. Going rustic camping in the tip of the mitt in July. Listening to a thunderstorm right now (one of my fav things in life).

    Bicycling on on the beach
    Fox,

    That sounds great! I'm fortunate to live on the NC coast and have gotten into bicycling along the beach every morning. I am nine months post open surgery and lucky (or not) that work is super slow so I can live life. I really want to get into some volunteer work which may include coastal environmental work and outreach. Since my surgery I have developed such an increased appreciation for life and found that it is more than just work and worry.

    Sorry but i think my week of WALLEYE fishing in Minnesota back in May tops the list here,but keep trying anyways

    Mountains
    My wife and I are in Asheville, North Carolina this week enjoying the mountains. We were on Mount Mitchell today, the highest point in the eastern US. Fox, I saw A LOT of motorcyclists today on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We're having a great time. I don't have my bike with me so I'm jealous as hell of the cyclists I see climbing mountains here but we're just relaxing and having fun before my first 6 month scan on the 28th. Oh yeah, Asheville is also known as beer city...lots of microbreweries, so you know what else I'm doing!

    Garage Time!!
    I restore old cars so my Summer will be spent in my garage.... breathing new life into old cars. :) I meet a lot of great people in my "hobby", many of whom have given me lots of encouragement in my "cancer journey". These days however, I don't have the stamina to work too long in the heat. So I sit in the shade watching life around me until the cool of the evening hits and I get back to work on my cars.

    I saw my first moose a few years ago - camping at Yellowstone. We were just hanging at our campsite when somebody said there was a momma and baby moose over by the main building. WELL, havng never seen one close up I took off like a rocket - leaping over brush and small logs (I could have qualified for the olympics right about then) - they were in my sights when suddenly out of nowhere a HORSE galloped right in front of me and I actually bounced off its side and landed on my behind! The ranger (on the horse) was glaring at me and I, very defensively said "I wasn't going to HURT it - why'd you do that? " The ranger looked at me like I'd completely lost my mind and said - YOU - hurting IT? LADY that thing is bigger than most CARS and she has a BABY! She'd have turned you into chipmunk food. Whodathunk!

    Doing something for yourself
    Never been big on that camping stuff Fox; I always wondered why people would give up their soft fluffy bed to sleep on the ground. I do like the wildlife part and short hiking but after a few hours, I want to come back to a lakefront cabin or the deck of an oceanfront condo. Give me a nice oceanfront condo with ocean waves crashing on the sand, a frozen margaretti, a good paperback, and a comfy deck chair, and I'm lovin' life!

    Moose in Alaska
    I saw my first moose (a lot of them actually) on my trip to the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska a few years back. They were everywhere. A local told me the moose were roaming around town because hunting season hadn't started yet. He said they all clear out as soon as the season starts. Good instincts. Alaska is a GREAT trip if you haven't made it up there yet. I would recommend going in the summer though. I'm 5 months post-op and I have a short camping trip to Texas coming up next month.

    Funny thing. They had to tranquilize a moose just a few miles from my house yesterday and move it out to the country....I'm off again. It's gonna be near 100 degrees for the next couple days. It gets kinda hot on a Harley. Should be back Sunday night. All stay healthy! FLY!

    24 Hour Challenge...
    They held the 24 Hour Challenge here this past weekend and it made me think of you. Grand Rapids, just north of me, tied Asheville for Beer City honors this year...so many beers, so little time. I've been to Mt. Mitchell and played the golf course in the valley below, beautiful area.

    Those guys and girls cycling 24 hours are tough or crazy...probably a little of both! We toured the top brewery in Asheville today. Free samples! Asheville is a beautiful area. I've been here many times but it's amazing how much more I appreciate it and everything else since being diagnosed with cancer. Thanks for thinking of me!

    Much the same here Fox. The moose is very common here in Scotland - I saw one in the garden yesterday but I think the cat ate it!

    Temperature up here too - it's already reached 50 degrees and I got burnt on the golf course, which is a sore place to get burnt.

    However we've got strong winds and heavy rain expected so it'll feel closer to freezing.

    I'd like to see a picture of that cat! Did it choke on the antlers?
