Getting tested
Usually I cone to the site for info for my mom. But now I need my own advice! My mother passed from ovarian cancer on 5-14-12 after being diagnosed on 2-21-12 after her surgery. Well I already have my own diagnosis of poly cystic ovarian syndrome (meaning multiple cysts on my ovaries). Now I'm having problems. A change in my bowel pattern, spotting with bloody clots and with tissue particles and bloating. I haven't had a period in years, I have an IUD with the hormones. I have had cysts on my ovaries rupture before (twice) with internal bleeding. I know that I need to be checked out because of my own medical history and family history. But I'm not ready for the results. I'm still dealing the my parents death. As a nurse I should know better, but I am human.

Hello
First off, I want to say how sorry I am for your loss. I lost my mother to uterine cancer 3 yrs ago today. It's been a tough day. Some days I'm doing well, others not so well. When my mom first passed, I was in shock.. 4 mos. after her official diagnosis, 4 mos. into treatment and she was gone. I survived on pure adrenaline, going through the motions, in a sort of fog, just breathing and putting one foot in front of the other.. every day a little better, but still sliding back now and then, 2 steps forward, one step back. I've spent a lot of time being angry and sad and bitter the last 3 yrs. If my mom was here, she'd probably want to smack me. And your mom would probably march you right to drs. office for those tests. Yes,as a nurse and cancer survivor, you do know better. Yes it's hard, I think about cancer all the time. It shadows me... I totally understand. But go in and get those tests, to thine own self be true.
Big hugs,

for all you have been through. Take a moment to absorb what is going on and try to move forward. You need to find out what is going on and hopefully it is less than you are imagining. Of course it is easy for me to say but for me the unknown is what makes me crazy. Once I find out what I am facing I can take the next step.
Know you can find support from the caring women on this board.

Take a deep breath and then move forward to have those symptoms checked out, and hopefully it's not something really serious. Your mom would not want you to hesitate. Please keep us posted and know that we're here for you.
Hugs,

I'm sorry for your loss as well. Don't assume that you can't overcome whatever you have to face. I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer 6 months ago...it had moved to my liver. I was terrified of that first ct scan after chemo. I had lots of prayers coming in and had started meditation...that really helped me mentally and strengthened my spirit. I'm still going through chemo, but the spots on my liver are gone.
I imagine you have a rougher time than most of us since you are a nurse. I've found that I've done better by avoiding the scientific research. I read something by a survivor that said no matter what the statistics, somebody has to be on the other side of the numbers. Even if a disease has 98% fatality for example; there are 2% who beat it!
I'll be praying for you.

SENDING THOUGHTS & PRAYERS
I remember when your dear Mother passed away. Again, I am so sorry for your loss. But please don't let fear keep you from being proactive in your own health.
'Clots' and 'tissue loss' sounds like endometriosis to me. But, not being a doctor, it could be from other causes as well. The IUD with hormones can also be an issue. My daughter had one, and after 2 years it caused quite a problem for her - bleeding, intense pain, etc. Yes, the cysts can rupture and bleed also.
Given your family history, it's in your best interest to get checked out by a gynecologic/oncologist. They can also check to see if these other possibilities could be causing your problems.
Sending lots of hugs and prayers during this difficult time. Please keep us informed. We'll be waiting to hear from you.
