How much soy is too much???

I was dx with Stage 1 IDC, ER/PR+ ('strongly positive' on report). I am two years in to the 5 year Tamoxifen treatment. I've read that those dx with estrogen positive cancers should avoid soy products. While I do avoid the obvious, soy milk, edamame, soybean oil... there seems to be soy in every stinkin' thing at the store these days. How much soy is too much? Is there a guidline for 'mg' consumed? Should I keep feeling dread whenever I discover that my fave cracker, or cookie, or butter spray has soy? I had been drinking a Slim-Fast shake in the mornings, until I read the label. Lucky for me, my daughter reads the labels too because she is worried about my soy intake. She catches a lot for me.
Does anyone have any info on this? I just don't recall seeing any written guidelines about this. It's one of those things that 'they' say.
Thanks!
Julie

You can't stress too much over this, JuJu..
A few years ago, one of the ladies on this board panicked over The Soy Issue, and she went through her kitchen and threw out every single thing that had "soy" on the label.
There was nothing left in her kitchen.
You're right -- soy is in every stinkin' thing. I asked both my oncologist and a breast cancer specialist about this, and both said that really all they recommend is that I avoid regularly eating soy-BASED foods -- soy milk, edamame, tofu, etc. My oncologist's parting words of wisdom were, "If you have a little soy sauce on your Chinese food once in awhile, it's nothing to worry about."

Thanks, Traci! That makes total sense..soy-based products. You always have good advice! Thank you!
Good question...I panicked over the same thing. Even a lot of vitamins like calcium and vitaminD have soy, but was told the same thing...Soy based! Thanks for bringing up the subject I'm sure others are curious too.0
