A REAL vacation!
For a solid week we did not move our car. We walked to cafes for coffee. walked to museums, walked to train station, rafting kiosk, shopping and back to Hotel.
8 months out of treatment and I never slowed anyone down.....never got sick.... Had to take a rest in the pm when I tired, usually between two and three. (good time to sit with a cup of coffee and visit! ). I feel blessed to be doing so well... I still have side effects but never thought about cancer ONE TIME while in that white water! What? You took such a nice vacation and didn't ask any of us to go along? LOL! I'm so happy you made this trip and that all went well for you. A change of scenery does tend to make cancer disappear from our minds, even if only temporarily. Enjoy your memories of such a wonderful trip!0 -

I love how you "didn't think of cancer once" while on that white water raft trip. It just shows how it comes to dominate our lives. It sounds like you got a real break. You made me want to take that plunge into the water. I will put Durango down as a vacation destination.
We are going to Carlsbad, CA to visit my mother in law who is celebrating her 91st birthday. I missed her 90th birthday celebration last year and am very grateful to make this one. I think though you have inspired and so I am going to do some sort of crazy water park while there. Were you able to stay covered up? My doctor told me to avoid being in the sun for the rest of my life due to radiation side effects. So I have to wear large hats and long sleeves, and sun screen on my hands and feet as well as the rest of me. I carry a spray bottle of sunscreen in my car now.
But so glad you didn't worry about this and just had a good time. Shoot we need vitamin D anyway!

Hi Sandy! Long sleeves and tons of sun screen! I buy the baby sunscreen for my face as I wear it everyday and it is waterproof and no tears! (started out with a hat but it came off!).
Next month will be 3 years since I had surgery for Melanoma. With that AND radiation I am NOT as careful as I should be as I live in high desert,
but keep trying to improve my sun habits! Go play in the water!! Hugs, Lorie0 -

Liz, Durrango is now at the top of MY lists! Taking my Grandkids the middle of July. They will love the rafts even though the Animas will be lower.
They are 16, 14, and 11 and awesome swimmers. So looking forward... You are lucky to live where you do!
Thanks again for helping me through the initial shock and fear of this cancer business. It was so much easier having an idea of what to expect. I was in absolute shock that I could have ANOTHER cancer after Melenoma... Blessings and hugs, Lorie0 -

What's this about not going out in the sun? Is there a connection between having pelvic radiation and melanoma? None of my doctors ever mentioned such a thing...0 -

I was diagnosed with and treated for Melanoma 2 years BEFORE the Anal cancer raised it's ugly head. NO relations between the two cancers as far as I know. One was Melanoma, the other Squamous. I grew up in the desert, riding horses, hiking, etc with, of course, NO SUNSCREEN! (of course in the 60s and 70s there WAS the old baby oil trick!). NOT RECOMMENDED, LOL!!!
I was told after radiation for SCC to avoid getting too much sun and burning.... Good advice for all of us! Blessings, Lorie0 -

Yeah, I did the old baby oil trick too, way back when - baby oil with some iodine mixed in to turn the skin red - and aluminum foil wrapped around a cardboard to reflect the sun - the whole kit and kaboodle.0 -
