Good Luck tomorrow at the "R" infusion. I am sure you will be just fine. Of course you will be dragging a bit from the benedryl. John

    Thanks guys! I'm home and done for the day. Had a slight reaction within seconds of starting my infusion...cold chills and felt like ice water was pumping through my veins, but the chemo nurse immediately stopped the drip,gave me more benedryl and then waited 10 minutes to start it back up. She slowed the drip down and everything went fine from there on. I did have to get a warm blanket to cover up in, but once I warmed up I fell asleep through the rest of the infusion. It took an extra hour today, but that was no big deal since I didn't have any big party plannned for afterwards anyways...ha! My granddaughter Chelsie was with me and got a little freaked out when my teeth started to chatter and body started shaking, but once the chemo nurse showed up and took action she calmed down. I told her.."lucky you kiddo"...this has never happened before! ha! Anyways...all's well that end's well and now I'm good to go until the first of August. Blood counts were good..blood pressure was 102/65 and pulse 81. I talked to my Onc about getting the shingles shot and shared with him the information Cathy had given us, and he decided to have me wait to get the shot until he does some extensive research on the matter. Said he would give me a call in the next few weeks, after he's talked to a few other doctors at the clinic. I'll let you know what he says. Well....Steve made some yummy homemade vegetable soup for diner and used steak for the meat in it, so I think I'll grab a bowl and then curl up in my chair. Got Lizzy boo in the morning and again on Thursday, so I need to get my game face ready!...ha! Love you all...Sue (FNHL-2-3A-6/10)

    Glad you are now home. What a scare for your granddaughter and for you. Happy that it was very tempory.

    Hubby and I are taking our youngest granddaughter to see the Broadway production of Mary Poppins tonight. This is an early birthday present for her. She will be eight on thursday.
    Better get going, since I have no idea what to wear...

    Hi Sue,
    I know how scary it can be especially if you've never had a reaction. I'm glad that the nurses took care of it quickly and that someone was there with you although not a very good experience for your granddaughter. I remember that after my reaction my blood pressure dropped and my heart pulse went up.
    About Shingles I'm also thinking that I'm getting shingles on my fingers, I wasn't sure what they were at first but they looked like a cluster of blisters and since I didn't know what shingles where before I actually had to google it lol!!! But anyway they're painful and very itchy, have to remind myself to tell the Onc about it.
    Well Sweet Sue very happy you're fine and hopefully you will never get another reaction!

    Please call your doc about the shingles. If it is shingles, the sooner the better to start the anti viral meds. Good Luck, Cathy

    Just wondering how do the Dr's know if its shingles or not? Do they do a blood test? I've been getting them on and off for about 2 months now, started getting them after I finished my Rituxan treatment in Feb. I'm going to go see my Onc on the 14th and will tell him about it, Thank you for your post.

    That happened to me I think on my first R infusion. It was not as bad,but I remember the icy feeling going thru my body. My teeth did start to chatter too.It only lasted for a few seconds because the nurse was right there in the same cubicle with another patient and she cut the drip right away. It took a while to warm back up and was a little scary.She came back every couple of minutes and finally increased the drip. She said that it happens every so often. I do not think they gave me any more benedryl. My blood pressure dropped some too. It was down to 97/56. Gradually it went back up to around 110 /68. The benedryl drops it a little as well. John

    For me, it was just a visual
    For me, it was just a visual confirmation by my doc coupled with my symptoms; burning, itchy, preceeded by pain with blisters appearing after a few days. I had mentioned that I asked my doc for a rx for the anti virals because I can tell when I have them.
    I would hope that you would reconsider waiting until the 14th and call your onc or pcp now. Anti virals work best with 72 hours of onset. Untreated shingles could lead to post herpetic neuralgia with pain lasting for months or years.
    Hopefully yours is a rash unrelated to herpes zoster and a result of your treatments. Probably best to find out and treat it if necessary.
