Here I am, 2 years after dx and just reading Dr. Susan Love's The Breast Book. I can't say enough good things about it. I think she addresses everything - and in a way we all can understand. As a result of reading it, there are some new questions I have for my oncologist. It is frank, not sugar coated, and yet very helpful and hopeful.

Just highly recommending this book in case you haven't read it. Don't know why I didn't get it before. A friend loaned me her autographed copy recently. I started reading and knew I wanted to finish and didn't want to damage her book, so I bought my own. Make sure you get the latest edition (5th) because the information is current. It's inexpensive ($13 on Amazon) and I think there are a some organizations that even have it for free. And, of course, there's the library.

    My OB/GYN reommended this book...
    ...to me at the time she gave me my diagnosis, 3 years ago.

    At that time, it was just too much information at once, too overwhelming -- I started instead with little brochures and booklets from the ACS, those were easier to "digest" during that difficult time.

    And now, 3 years later, with active treatment behind me, I probably have a rather elitist, "oh, I'm sure I know all that already" attitude -- but of course I do NOT know everything already! So thanks for the reminder and recommendation, Suzanne!

    My surgeon recommended this book
    when I got my initial diagnosis as well back in Dec. of '09. I remember carefully picking and choosing chapters to read--I didn't want to freak myself out any more than I already was. So, Traci--I can identify with your post. However, once I wrapped my head around everything and was going through surgeries/chemo/rads, I referred to it often and read more.

    Thanks for bringing this up again, Suzanne. I'm sure all our "newbies" and maybe some of our veterans can get some valuable information from this book.
