June 4th... last chemo
I still have my second part of the plastic surgery to go soon. Then I guess get back to the business of REALLY living again. I held my breath for the first year since I was diagnosed (1/17/2011)... then sort of found relief as life events came and I realized I was blessed to still be alive for them.
My youngest just graduated from pre-school. My oldest just graduated from 8th grade. When I was diagnosed with cancer I wasn't sure I would be alive to see either take place. It's just sort of the place CANCER puts your mind... at least MY mind.
GAH... just lots of thoughts this evening as I look ahead to next week. I'm blessed... BEYOND and my life, even with this cancer, is pretty good. I just pray that one day NO one else has to get the diagnosis of cancer..

Congratulations on finishing
Congratulations on finishing chemo next week! I have my last chemo on June 5 :-) But I still have surgery the end of June and then radiation after (I was diagnosed about the 1st of the year and have been doing chem ever since.)
Best of luck with what you have left and praying for lots of NED's in your future!

Thank you!! I hope radiation and surgery go well for you. Congrats to you as well for finishing chemo next week. I did radiation in Oct/Nov (28 treatments). They seemed to go well, I did get a little tired the last week. Be sure to use any of the creams to provide as you will get burnt eventually in the process, so better to lather up after each treatment and stay hydrated.

Lisa, thanks for the tip. I'll be sure to do that.
Also, I think our minds do work alike. Last week, I was just extra grateful to be able to go to a youngest local grand's school talent show and dance recital, middle grand's 8th grade recognition, and oldest and middle's band and orchestra concerts the week before.

Congrats all the way around!
I'm so glad when I read anyone is finishing chemo. So both of you are almost there! Yay!!!! I had my last chemo in Jan. 2012. I, too was happy and unnerved at the same time. I was kind of afraid to be on my own to fight this stuff even tho I still had rad. to come. I talked to my oncol. and he said that most people feel that way since you feel that as long as chemo is going you feel nothing can survive it. He also said that we could continue chemo as long as you want but then we would kill the host (me) too. Sort of defeats the purpose, right? I felt a lot less like this after radiation. Just do everything you can to stay healthier - exercise and eat well and do whatever they tell you to do. And most importantly, Enjoy life!!!
Hugs!

Love/Hated my chemo too
I felt the same way when I finished my chemo in April. Since I am TNBC I was told that there was "no more" if it didnt work.. and I knew the tumor was shrinking so I didn't really know how to be happy and carefree..all the "what if's" creep in and take over. I had my surgery 10 days ago and waiting now for the pathology report.. lymphnodes came back clear thanks be to God. But the "what if's" are ever present. I want to be around for whenever my only daughter gets pregnant.. we talked so often about when she becomes a Mom.. I want to be around to see my oldest granddaughter graduate High School.. etc.. so hard not to think about this stuff. I guess this is when I turn to this board.. I look for happy thoughts from everyone and usually after reading a post or two, I find a happy story and it gives me a kick and sets me back up!
Good Luck to you..sending positive thoughts and prayers your way!

Thank you SO much Karen... I had radiation in Oct/Nov (28 of them) and that seemed less daunting. Having chemo now almost a year and a half... yes, relief and anxiety. Trying to incorporate exercise to my routine (sat around far too long last year) - eating good has improved, however during the beginning chemo I sure allowed myself cheat days (trays of brownies... lol)
Congrats to you on completing your own chemo and radiation!! Have a wonderful weekend!!

The waiting is the HARDEST part for sure. Praying for great results for you. The fact there is nothing in the lymphnodes is fantastic!! Ahhhh the "what if's"... they are NO FUN at all... I am in the same boat you with wanting to be there for your daughter. i have two - one is 14 and going to start high school and the other is 5 and going to start Kindergarten. YES, quite a gap in age... but man what a joy to be a mom and what a killjoy CANCER is to rob you of being a mom... I know you get this.
Keeping you in my prayers. Have a wonderful weekend
