I am soooo stupid!
What makes it even smarter on my part is that I have been warned by the cat's owner and the neighbors that Dr. Jekyl has a screw loose.
Well, of course, the deep bite is in my forearm on my "no nodes" side. I cleaned the bite and put neosporin on it, but, a few hours later, it was blowing up like a balloon. Pasteurella multocida, I know, I know. Been there, done that when one of my cats bit my finger after Katrina and I ended up on antibiotics for 6 weeks.
My sister called in augmentin tonight and I am praying that it will work. My poor gut!
Am I stupid?! BTW, I still love Dr. Jekyl--it was all my fault! I will post his photo for you and you will see why he is so irresistable ;-). But I am retiring my title as cat whisperer.

And just what did your sister have to say about this latest adventure of yours?
I know you'll keep a close eye on your arm - just remember to take this seriously and don't hesitate if it even looks remotely like you'll need more extreme intervention.
As for Dr. Jekyl. . .

Oh my sister was not pleased, but she called in the script right away and has ordered me to seek follow up if it is not markedly better. However, same sister has a psycho dog who bites her from time to time, so she really couldn't say much. She did tell me to please avoid Dr. Jekyl in the future. He follows me everywhere, so I guess I will have to not walk by his house.0 -
Do...RE said:hmmm
Are you sure you did not pull his tail or something, he looks far too sweet to have bitten you! All kidding aside glad you got meds right away those cat bites can be pretty nasty. Please let us know how you do.
Hugs,
RE
Cc...do you know if this cat is current on all vaccines? Especially since he's an out door cat? Many people who own cats indoors and out don't feel the need to have them get the proper vaccines like they do with dogs.... We had a cat who lived for 18 years...thought we were going to have her put in our wills!.....lol. We kept her current until she was 15 and our vet stopped because he said at her age her body couldn't tolerate them.... I would certainly inquire about this...
Take good care....this was the LAST thing you needed!

Well Dr. J. does look wicked cute! You poor thing. Take care of yourself will ya! I would think, like you, that if you're giving something love they shouldn't bite me.
Another life lesson learned.

Dear CC,
I am so sorry about your latest adventure in the world of infections. Do give this Dr. Jekyl's a lot of space as the world is full of nicer kitties.
I am hoping that all will be well and there will be no visits to the ER.
Best,

Another adventure in the life....
Dr. J certainly looks sweet enough! Sure glad your sister was available to call in the antibiotic, and I am sure you got an eye roll out of that one, I know I would have!
Hope the antibiotic works.. but if not, good thing you are already working in a hospital.
Take care of yourself,

It gets better. Arm blew up
It gets better. Arm blew up over night with red streaks above elbow. Fever and chills. Was admitted to hospital yesterday and put on iv zosyn and Tigecycline. Of course, that has me throwing up. Arm much better today but doc won't let me go home until afebrile 24 hrs. Spiked temp last night. Keep your fingers crossed that no more fever. I'm ready to spring the joint ;-)0 -

All this trouble from a cute little kitty. I must confess, I have never been fond of cats and they seem to know it. Plus I am allergic to them. Every time I come into a place with a cat, that cat seeks me out and jumps on my lap! Freaks me out every time.
So glad you're in the right place right now, but I do hope the fever vanishes, the arm returns to normal and you're feeling better soon. I would have a very hard time cozying up to that cat again!
Take good care.

You've had enough lately, don't you think? Glad to hear arm is looking better already, tho. I hope that means the IV drugs are doing their work and you will continue being afebrile and improve and go home. Leave the cat alone. Please.
You are the "perfect" example of how vulnerable we are when on treatments. It's one thing to know it, but now you really know it, don't you?
I'll send down a few prayers to help the medince do its job for you.
Love,

Thanks Suzanne, I do know. I seem destined to find out the hard way. As soon as they let me out, I'm buying a lottery ticket. My luck has to change... lol.0 -

Oh my...I missed all your drama CC. I hate those 'gotta go now' trips to the hospital, but I'm glad you're getting good care. Your poor tummy! I'm sure you know all about the value of those probiotics once you're all done with the antibiotics...
I was bit by a cat a few years ago...stupid cat tried to jump down from our fence and got it's tail stuck between the boards. So the stupid cat was hanging upside down by it's tail...I grabbed it to help and must have hurt it. It reacted and bit my finger. It hurt so bad I was shaking. Did the same as you, cleaned it as thoroughly as I could. But still ended up with an infection also....but I had lymph nodes then so I only needed a normal course of antibiotics.
I hope you're feeling better, and that you're home now. By the way, this stuff comes in threes. You've had your three, so you're done for a long while.
Hugs,

Cats are cute and really, you just don't think they're going to bite you! In any case, I'm so sorry this has happened to you. How long does this condition last? Hopefully, upon reading this, they're taking effect.
Hugs and prayers for a speedy recovery.
