I went to a tattoo artist, but then had her tattoo the whole breast instead, just went to have the nips, love what she did, it is beautiful and now when I look in the mirror, instead of scars I have a beautiful hummingbird with hibiscus.
and they did a great job, but the color has faded some.
I thought it was funny sitting there selecting a Nip "color" like I was picking out shoes or something...0 -

Let us know how it goes... I'll be in the market soon. I'm interested in how it goes ... I may have my PS to it as well. I'm interested in the pain factor and the potential to puncture the implants. ;0( . I'm not surprised of the fading...all tats fade over time. Love to hear how it goes...
Thanks,

Had my tattoo at my plastic surgeon's office (even though she had a "Tattoo Parlor" neon sign! She did numb it and I felt nothing except some pressure. I don't think they numb it at a tattoo parlor (but I may be wrong).
Since I only needed one tattoo (uni-lateral mastectomy with other side reduction) she did an excellent job matching it with the other, color and all! I've had mine for about a year now. It has faded a little, but still looks good.
Hubby was amazed as he watched them do it. He loves how it looks too.
Hope this helps.

I sought out a female tattoo artist who has private rooms, had a beautiful hibiscus flower and leaves done~ it is about 3 1/2 inches centered on my breast. It made something beautiful out of all the scars of the flap surgery~
~and my husband (and I) think it is quite sexy~♥ We honeymooned in Maui, and I have adored hibiscus flowers ever since.

If it's anything like my eyebrow tatts, it may not be that bad. My nail salon owner did my brows. She did a GREAT job. Not sure she's into tatts for the boobs. ;0) You girls make it seem like a breeze. I have a least 6 months for my tatts. My next step is nipple reconstruction. How did that go for you ladies? How was the healing and the surgery? My PS is doing it in his office on a Fri. He makes it sound like a breeze too. What was your experience?
Thanks Ladies!!!

I am choosing not to do the nipple recon surgery. From what I hear they flatten out over the years and I didn't want permanent outies. I also hear you have to wear some shield or cone device to protect them right after surgery. I'm going for the 3D tats. I still have one more surgical process to do (skin clean up and fat grafting) then my Plastic surgeon will be getting lots of questions coming his way. I admire you ladies that chose the non-nipple tattoos..I bet they are great works of art. I was told a while ago that the areola color is almost the same shade as your natural lip color. I don't know if that is true for you girls but it was pretty close for me. Good luck VickieSam with your procedure... I can't wait to hear how it all goes. My chest is still numb from my bilateral mastectomy a year ago, so I doubt I'll feel anything...
Good luck all.

Must be the green eyes or something. Mine covers the whole breast and goes up to the shoulder where there was an indent from the breast tissue that they took out.
There was only one little area under my arm where I felt any pain at all she said probably a nerve as it was on a scar, and then I just used a topical numbing cream. The rest of it had no feeling at all. I will post a picture. It is on her business cards for reconstruction tattoo's.
I did the nip re construction but it flattened out within 6 weeks.0 -

I chose not to have the nipple reconstruction~ the area had been "blank" just the scar from the lat flap~ and thats when I thought, instead of an areola i wanted something really beautiful, colorful and yes..sexy.
The entire area was numb except for one small spot, but I did just fine.
I have not posted a picture, I have even been cautious in sharing that I did this, because some people just are not into tattoo's...and can be very vocal about it. It's a personal choice. I feel safe sharing it here with my kindreds~

I had my tattoo artist (i have ALOT of tattoos) do my nipple tattoos. I had the nipple reconstruction but now almost a year later you can hardly tell anything was done. Barely a little bump, and my PS told me that would happen. But my surgeon also recommended I talk to my tattoo artist about doing my areolas - in the PS office they basically have you pick a color and shade it in. While my artist friend gave them depth, shading, i cant believe how natural they look. I still dont have much feeling in that area after my mastectomy so i barely felt it, and the tattoo needles do not go far enough through your skin to even come close to puncturing your implants. I would highly recommend going to a SKILLED tattoo artist to get the areola tattoos. It only took less than a half an hour, my husband was in there with me, and the person who did my tattoos is a great friend of mine and has been doing my tattoos for the past 8 years, he even had me come in after the shop closed so that i could have some privacy
*hugs*

Had both of mine done last month at plastic surgery office. Not painful. If you feel any pain just ask them to numb it up. The recovery was not painful but a little messy. Had to keep them moist with vasaline for a week. You may want to ask your doctor about post tatoo care. I understand there are differnt schools of thought - do nothing, use vasaline or use bacitracin. Very pleased with the result!!!0 -

Love mine! A year and a half and they look great! I really don't see the scars anymore. I went to my amazing plastic surgeon and actually each procedure was about 30 minutes. I had a double mastectomy and don't have much feeling so at that time, I didn't feel anything! Good luck!

information. .. July 13th is just around the corner -- so I am getting excited.
I did have a great deal of pain with my nipple reconstruction -- however, my
surgery was well over 1 year after my bilateral, and implant surgery (due to
lack of insurance) .. so the feeling in my new breasts are evident.
Tatts will be the final statement of my breast cancer journey, which started
on August 14, 2009. YIPPEEEEEEE and HALLEJUAH !
