Thinking of you and sending prayers and hugs your way today!
Sandy
I truly hope you have a better time of it--treatment could be different every time.
Stay positive and take good care of yourself. So glad to hear Charlie is going.

2 down and 6 to go
I had 16 total rounds of chemo (last one in 8/2010) so I know all too well the feeling of not wanting to go. It wasn't bad getting out my front door but there were a couple of times where I sat in the car in front of my doctor's office and said to myself,"I just cannot do this again." Of course, I did. You can tell from the picture next to my screen name that my dog Mulan is the light of my life. You are lucky to be able to bring your Charlie with you to the infusion center. I wish I had been able to do that. Just think, with 2 rounds under your belt you are 1/4 of the way through

I know its no fun having to go, but think of it as a step closer to regaining your health. How nice that you are giving back to others while you are in treatment, that is amazing! There is an oncologist in the neighboring town who takes his three dogs to work and they cuddle with the patients while they are being treated, very nice! Remember drink lots of fluids and get plenty of rest! You are in my prayers!

They are wisps of wind under my heavy wings helping me to lift off. You girls are something else! I made it through. I am sleepy. Slept the afternoon away. Will drink lots of fluids. The nurses liked my wig, I did a little fashion show. I did like the Look Good Feel Better class said and put make up on and dressed nice....for that darned truck to run over me. But I felt like a million bucks while it did. Anyway, they never heard of Claratin or Benedryl after the Neulasta shot, but said I could take it if I wanted to. The said Claratin won't make you sleepy and that is the one they would choose.
Thank you all so much for your sisterhood. You are probably gonna hear it from me way too much.0 -

just my 2 cents:
First of all, it is okay to be anxious of the unknown -- Please don't allow this anxiety to get the best of you. Remember to alert your Onco RN of any unusual feelings etc .. a list of possible side efforts, which should be presented to you before your first chemo infusion
It is so important to remain and continue hydration, water - water, and more water. Splash in a little lemonade, cranberry juice -- or prepackaged crystal light, or Lipton Tea. Herbal Tea's also work for a change of pace.
If you are getting the neulasta shot -- Please ask your Oncologist about taking a benadryl -- or claritin -- which many of us === swear by -- as they help alleviate that 'just run over by a truck' aches and pains - some of us experience from the neulasta shot.
Ask for prescriptions for nausea and vomiting -- as well as diarrhea.
Plastic silverware is a must ---
biotin toothpaste and mouthwash is a daily essential
(available at most Target's or Wall-Mart's)
Food is subjective -- depending on your personal needs and taste buds .. What taste good or was tolerable 1 week -- changed for me, the very next. I could not tolerate any foods with sugar, i.e. ketchup, or cola's.
To help prevent mouth sores -- suck on ice chips during all chemo treatments.
Rest when you can, as some chemo queens have bouts of insomnia ---
Take goodies to entertain yourself during your infusions -- games, books, friend, a snack, IPOD, laptop ...
Strength, Courage and Hope.

I used the advise you gave and had better results this time.
I took the Claratin after the shot and think it helped. The Oncologist never heard of it and said I shouldn't listen to everything I read online. I think she should keep up with what works, in my humble opinion!!!! I asked about the ice chips and they acted like my chemo didn't need it so I drank cold water...next time its ice chips, darn it! I gargled with the salt water/baking soda rinse right away all day for a week (today) and it prevented a lot of the very painful mouth soreness. I brushed and gargled with Biotene, too. They changed my nausea meds and it stopped the severe headache but the tradeoff was more nausea. It was worth it. I took Melatonin at night and slept like a baby.
It is hard to present yourself to another chemo. It is like allowing some painful thing to be done to you for the greater good.
Your advise is welcome anytime!0 -
