Good news, perhaps???

My partner James (Stage iv Dx 8/11) underwent a procedure to have the two tumours removed from his liver last week, which went well. The biopsy from his oesophagus also came back negative, so we are ‘tumour free’ at this point in time. The surgeon who performed the liver operation is sceptical about the original diagnosis of adenocarcinoma, and thinks it may be neuroendocrine carcinoma. All of the previous biopsies and scans etc are to be re-evaluated to ascertain the exact cancer type. I have had a quick look at the web for information (overwhelmed with info of course) so will need to sift through the pages and advice etc once we have confirmation. By the looks of things neuroendocrine carcinoma is very rare and still very nasty.
Either way, we are cautiously optimistic, and as determined as ever. Has anyone else experienced this uncertainly about cancer type???

Please let us know what you find out.
    Steve:

Wow! That must have blown your minds. I had not heard of the other cancer, but I'm very curious as to what the diagnosis will be for James. I wonder how they could have missed that the first time through.

No cancer is a good cancer that's for sure. We will be praying for both of you and hoping for some good news to come your way.

    Stay strong.

    Hugs to both,
    Judy

    Three different cancers
Ok, the pathology report is back, and James has three different cancers. the original EC, which was radiated and seems to have gone, the liver tumours which are neuroendocrine...we thought these were EC mets, and some other cancer from an earlier biopsy that looks different to the first two. The liver tunours have been cut out, so as far as we know James is tumour free right now. I guess that means that his original staging EC iv no longer holds??? We have lived for the past 9 months with that diagnosis, but now what??? What a strange place we are in.

    3 cancers better than mets?
I'm not experienced with this at all, but wouldn't 3 different cancer types to manage/treat be better? I could be wrong, but I think this is encouraging.

You and James are in our hearts, prayers and positive thoughts!

    {hugs} to you both!

    Neuroendocrine - Liver
Hi! As far as the neuroendocrine tumors are concerned, the liver is almost always a metastatic site. Typical primary are appendix, pancreas, etc. So he should be checked well to try to find the primary and remove it also. It is important to find a doctor who has experience with neuroendocrine tumors because they are somewhat rare. Good news is that they are slow growing. All the best to you!
