Pneumonia / Peg Tube
What sucks is that they will not let me eat anything by mouth because of the aspiration problem. I guess the only good news from all this is that they will be putting a Peg tube in me tomorrow and I will be able to start getting some food back into my stomach again. Of course this all depends on if my Jaw will open wide enough for the scope to get in and the doctor to do what he needs to do. Please keep me in your prayers
Denny I guess we are now finally twins

Always!
In my prayers Hondo, your the one who prays and gives
kind words for all on the board, so if you need it now
then you shall have it. God will see you through this
Trial and he will carry you safe to the otherside.
Stay strong my friend, and keep your faith strong.

Hondo ...no kidding I was just saying prayers for you (you are on my nightly prayer list) the other night and I even mentioned to the Lord how you preach and pray for others and offer kinds words ....and so I asked the Lord "please heal this man who does so much for You"....
....I know you know this Hondo ...but He loves and cares for us and I am staying strong in my prayers that you no longer have to fight this cancer you have had for sooooo long....
...not one Lord......(that's my cry to the Lord at night for the folks on my prayer list ....I don't want not one to be lost to cancer)....
I've spoken to my pastor at church and we were thinking of a prayer "war" room for our church members and my friends on the board here ...and I told my pastor I just have such a heavy heart for my message board friends, church fmaily with cancer and just want this to stop ....I really do!!!....
So prayers for you Hondo ....and continued prayers my friend...

Welcome to the wonderful world of PEGs! Better places to be, but the PEGs are a blessing. Your battle has been long, I know, and hope you can keep this as just another phase of a fight that's got many more years ahead of it. Know that I'm not alone in being concerned about how you're really doing the past months, as you don't post too often anymore. The Lord will help you get thru this phase, too, as you know; and, as always, Tim-

Sorry to hear about the pneumonia - are they saying it was caused by aspiration? Wow.
I remember dreading getting my feeding tube put in (when they put mine in, I didn't need it yet, I was hospitalized for something else, and docs figured as long as I was there anyway . . .). I resented, even hated the tube at times. I also recalled coming to terms with my tube, and finally admitting that I DID need the tube, and that it was helping me in an amazing way, helping me to get in the water and calories I needed to be able to fight for my health. The tube and I finally became a team. And you know how much better you feel when you can actually get in sufficient calories and water. So, I'm glad you're getting the PEG. Will have you on my mind and in my heart.0 -

PEG....
Now if you could somehow use that for breathing purposes as well...that could solve you eating problem, and allow you to dive again perhaps...:)
Best to you friend, looking forward to our paths crossing again....
LOL, let me clarify, hopefully that will be here on Earth, before the far yonder.

So sorry to hear you're laid up in the hospital but at least we know you'll get the proper care from all those cute nurses!
You were the first to "Friend" me here at CSN and you made me feel very welcome and comfortable. I've always considered you to be the glue that holds this place together.
May God bless you and heal you nice and quick. Now you have lots of friends praying for you.

Hi Everyone
Well it is over I am now the proud owner of a PEG tube, it is all tape up right now till the doctor comes back to show me how to use it.
Thanks to all of you for keeping me in your prayers, like I have always said CSN is a home where we can get away and be with others who know what we are going through
Now If I can start putting on weight, as I am down about 149lbs.
God bless you all

and not have to worry about aspiration...
The Dr. is going to show you how to use it? That's wonderful! When all I got was a little book, and nobody seemed to be talking, I asked the Home Health nurse...how do I work this thing. She was amazed I had it with nothing but a book for how to clean around it.
Are you out of the hospital, or almost out? Aspiration pneunomia is one big scary thing...

Hi Hondo,
Sorry to hear that you had to get the tube. I have had mine now for just over a year and it has sure helped my energy level. My prayer is that you will adapt to your as easily as I did (or even easier) to mine. Keep us updated on how you are doing.
Take care,

I just wrote Tim a Pulitzer Prize winning post and it went into "data bit hell" when I loaded it :>(
Glad to see you finally got the peg and I also know it will change your life for the better after a few lessons are learned. First, be careful right now after the surgery. Passing the anestheic gas resulted in another bout of pneumonia for me and another four days in the hospital. Hopefully won't happen to you. I spent the first two years living on Ensure. While I "lived" I never could get strength. Now we empty out the leftovers into Ppapa's" tube and if there aren't any then I have been known to eat a double whopper or an Arby Roast beef. You do need to watch and make certain that somehow you get some balance of veggies (V8 for liquid), vitamins and minerals (chicken pot pies seem pretty well rounded). Remember you aren't going to taste this so mix whatever you want for a balanced meal. I recommend last tube in the evening at least three hour before bed or else you can plan on toilet visits all night. I also shhot meds through the tube.
When I first got the thbe I would tape it up, keep it dry etc etc. Now I wear tee shirts in case the tube doesn't close properly (that warm feeling you get in your mid-drction isn't always nice) or springs a leak. Others use the "drain sponges as I did but got tired of then and of pulling the hair on my chest. Also ensure your meals are very thin and runny (lots of water or other liquid). This will 1) guarantee the fluids needed for hydration and 2) will prevent blow back if you have to push too hard to get the mixture to flow. It does make a mess in the kitchen sink whenever you are forcing thicker fluids and the syringe and tube somehow uncouple snd you spray food everywhere.
Your grandchildern will want to see how you do it and then it will become boring to them Some adults are a bit more uncomfortablr but I just joke about it and that helps put them at ease. The wife just took a few days to get used to seeing me with Tube Sr. and T`ube Jr. but now she actually doesn't seem to notice it.
Let me know if you have any problems, questions or conceerns.
Love ya Bro,
Denny0
