SPREAD TO LUNG?
My husband had radical removal of his prostate 51/2 years ago, coming up 65 years old. Gleeson score 4+3+7 PSA very good each year. He has got a spot on his lung in february this year and had a new xray last week, can this be related to his prostate cancer 5 years agoe, can the prostate cancer have come back with a zero PSA or is this something else? So worried

Spread to lungs
My urologist was quick to tell me that cancer does not spread to the lungs. Unfortunately he sent an x-ray showing a spot on my lungs to the VA. They are so overworked that my doctor never read it. (not her fault, just too busy, my lungs caught on fire six months later. A ct showed numerous nodules on lungs. I had to walk into the emergency room and demand an x-ray. That is how we caught it. I ended up having a biopsy, he had to cut and use his hand, and it showed prostate cancer.
Mine is from exposure to Agent Orange if your husband served anywhere where they used or stored it you need to get to the agencynthat handles that.
Spreading to lungs is unusual, but it happens. My PSA never worked properly. Where most people would score , according to my urologist, 1-200 in the PSA score mine was 6.4. My PSA does not work. They will have to do a biopsy to determine what it is. It can also be a calcium deposit. Hopefully it will be calcium deposit.
I wish you good luck with this. Stay positive, and try to keep a sense of humor. It really helps.0 -
Prostate and Lung Cancer
If your husband had his prostate surgically removed and his PSA was consistently "zero" thereafter, it is unlikely that there was anything left of the prostate cancer (PCa) that could metastasize and spread to his lungs.
So, I'm guessing that it's "something" else. Did he happen to smoke or work or spend significant time in a smoke, asbestos or otherwise contaminant filled environment? If so, that may be the source.
However, IF the PCa did somehow metastasize, the probabilities are that it would spread to the following areas: bone (90%), lung (46%), liver (25%), pleura (21%), and adrenals (13%). See: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10836297.
Is there any "proof" of a PCa metastasis and what do the doctors think?0 -

I doubt the spot
Stockholm
I doubt the spot in the lung is prostate cancer given the zero PSA. Normally when the Radiologist locates a lesion in the lung,he/she makes a recommendation for a CT if the lesion looks very suspicious. If not, he/she will just recommend a f/u CXR in 2-3 months to see if the lesion disappeared.0 -

I know of 3-4 people at MD Anderson cancer center that the Prostate cancer has metastasis to the lung's and it's not pretty, but Samsung you are like me in that we have a common friend of the Vietnam War "Agent Orange". We have to fight hard and i hope you are P&T 100%+ with VA. If not let me know and I will help you get it!! My metastasis Prostate cancer is floating around in my Lymph Nodes and it's trying to get its way to my bones.
Samsung, keep fight and make sure VA give up the latest drug's0 -

Ralph,
They gave me P&T last month, from my comp last December. Had to be from the heart disease because I did not do the CT scan until 10 January.
I had a VA appointment last week. I went to get them to supply my drugs. I got into a serious argument with the PA urologist who did my biopsy, As a result I do not trust the VA doctors.
I threw my watch away when I left VN. I figured if I got through that every day was a gift. I am going on 66 and still have not worn a watch. Luck has so much to do with living.
Thanks for the heads up about spreading to lungs. I thought bone was so much worse. Good to be uninformed. It is all good.
My PSA two weeks ago was .1. Most people would love that, but like I say mine does not work so it is worthless. Everyone should be aware of what thier PSA is saying and if it is in sync with what is going on.
Good luck Ralph.0 -

First I have say to "luck" is what both of us are very lucky to make home! About "Time" I don't wear watch either and I do not look at years, I look at days, and I have about 1,460 day left and fighting for more! "Faith" is very important to surviving the fight against this monster and with MD Anderson I will get more.
PSA is so over rated, I know that you can have low psa and the PC can be in Bones, Lung, ETC. Mine being 0.2 and as MD Anderson doc's say it's still growing. Just not as fast. The Zytiga is slowing it down, but slowing me down too.
If you lost your prostate, and if so you should be getting SMC from VA for Loss of Creative organ and house bound, which is $200 more a month from VA.
Just like the war it took them 42 years to give that the Medal Of Honor to that Vietnam Vet the other day and like that war to take 40 years to kill us. "Shot at an miss, S*** at an HIT" Final note is VA Hospital is such a mess, I get my medicine there, if i can. I have private doc's that take care of me because I would not be alive by now if VA had been taking care of me0 -

I to am a vietnam vet, 2 tours, that has PC, I had surgery in jan 2011, my psa score jumped from a .8 to a 2.25, my doctors quickly noticed this and performed biopsy, stage 2 very agressive cancer. My urologist was very concerned all 18 samples showed between 40 to 60 percent cancer cells. The psa scores can vary. I remember planes flying overhead spraying areas to keep down the plant growth, we were informed not to come into contact with this junk, try to find cover, yea right. I keep thinking that this might be part of the reason that I have pc today. Since my surgery my psa score has been .02, but what does this mean ? I am thankfull for every day. I was able to find some very good doctors and they are helping me now. Keep up the fight. US Army 69/70, I wonder how many other vietnam vets are having problems with PC.0 -

Is there any "proof" of a PCa metastasis and what do the doctors think?

I have a friend who had an RP 2 years ago. PSA <.01. He recently had a ultra sound (routine) and a lesion appeared on the kidney. You think that could be related to his PC?
Thanks0 -

I'm certainly no expert on this but if your friend had an RP w/PSA near zero since then (indicating that all of the PCa had been removed), I'd still think the cause of his kidney cancer was NOT from metastases of the PCa.
However, If there's any evidence of metastases from the PCa, the probability of adrenal cancer resulting from it (based on the study mentioned above) would be around 13%. Is your friend's "kidney" cancer actually adrenal cancer? If so, then there might be a link, if there's any proof of a PCa metastasis.0 -

Just wondering why
Hunter
Just wondering why was a 'routine' ultra sound done? Was his Creatinine rising? The best imaging for kidney malignancy is a contrast CT . Nonetheless, with a PSA < 0.01, I doubt they are related.0
