How long were you on FOLFIRI?

Hi everyone! I haven't been on much lately but think of you all often and what true warriors you all are. Fighting cancer is truly a battle and reading your posts about what you all have been through and how you keep fighting is very inspiring! So thank you for that.
My husband was dx with Stage 4 in June 2011. He had 5 mets to his liver that showed up on CT. He had FOLFOX(6 treatments) and then liver resection which was successful(we thought). Then they decided to focus on the primary rectal tumor and did the chemo/radiation. After he was done with that they did his first Pet which showed 5 new lessions with uptake around 12. The surgeon said they were not in the same location at the first 5 and his CEA was up to 10 so they cancelled his rectal surgery and started him on FOLFIRI. He has had 4 treatments and has CT scan on Tuesday. I don't know what to expect. Is it possible that the lessions could be gone after 4 treatments? Has anyone else had new lessions show up so soon after liver resection(4 months) How song can you have another liver resection? It is all so overwhelming. We don't know what to expect and the rectal surgeon said that the optimal time to do the surgery is 6 weeks after radiation so we obviously missed that. I am just concerned that the lessions came back so fast and wonder if they were probably there to begin with and just too small to see. Any words of advice would be very appreciated! Blessings, Teri

Wow... I wish I knew what to tell you..
From what you are saying the primary tumor is still there? and hasn't yet been removed. I really thought that would have been priority.. it was for me.. but I hadn't presented with any mets at the time the rectal cancer was found.
I am sure you are nervous and fustrated and I am sure you have so much information spinning around in your head right now.
I want to send you many blessing and positve engery..
    Stay strong...

    primary tumor still there
Thanks Donna for the positive energy..yes primary tumor is still there...they said the liver tumors were the most life threatening so they went after those first.....basically no reason to deal with the primary and let the liver tumors grow so much that you become inoperable. It sounded logical at the time but who really knows for sure....Hugs, Teri

    Folfiri
I followed a similar path. I presented Stage IV; however, my mets were two small lung nodules. Like you husband, they focused on those first with surgery to remove them via VATS. I then had 6 Folflox treatments, the 28 days of chemo/radiation followed by removal of my primary rectal tumor. All signs of cancer where then gone. As a mop-up after my resection surgery, I had 12 Folfiri treatments. Currently still showing no evidence of disease. Best of luck to your husband.
