Any advice on dealing with these mouth sores? Pain medication isn't helping they are just so bad even water hurts. I've stopped trying to eat and even the Ensures hurt. This is the worst mouth sore pain I've ever had and It's making me so miserable constant pain. Even dissolving the Zofran under the tongue stings and I need that as I am still nauseous.

Good ideaRej0328 said:Mouth sores.
If you get too bad, don't be afraid to go into the ER. I went three times during my treatments, and they really helped me. You can get everything through an I V.
The ER can be a good idea in some cases. There was a few days in my treatment that I only ate popsicles. They increased my pain meds for other reasons but also relieved mouth pain, tho I think yours is much worse than I had. Your doc will be concerned about dehydration, or should, and may even want to admit you for a day or two himself to get IV fluids...I pray he can help, you are surely in my thoughts.0 -
Mouth Sores
I didn't have mouth sores, so I can't speak from personal experience, but I have
read about it on various posts. Do the sores continue on down your throat? I believe
I have read that using a straw may help as it gets the liguid as far back in your mouth and near your throat as possibe.
I did have braces twice in my life; once as a kid and once as an adult. (Wished I had worn my dang retainer!) I use to spray chloroseptic (sp?) spray on when my mouth was sore from tightening the braces and it temporarily numbed my mouth. It may help and it may be angony. If you decide to try it why don't you just put a little bit on a cotton swab and see how it does on a sore. Actually the more I think of it the worse of an idea I think it is, so don't go there. You are obviously suffering enough. I wonder if your dentist could recommend some kind of numbing spray, etc... If he/she can, just check it out with your onc. nurse to make sure it is OK from that perspective. Good luck and hopefully this will pass quickly.0 -
I am so sorry you are having
I am so sorry you are having such a terrible time. Have you tried swish a solution of warm water, baking soda and salt right before you drink or eat? It is a teaspoon of soda, a teaspoon of salt to 1 quart of water.
If none of that helps I agree that your biggest concern is dehydration. If you get dehydrated it may only make it worse.
Good luck. Hopefully the sores will only last a week or so. I had them the first time really bad, but then I didn't have them the second time.0
