3 days since teeth have been extracted

hi everybody i'm out and moving around since Monday having 23 teeth extracted and the chemo port put in its a lot of pain comes and goes but i'm trying to get through it i know i have a bigger task at hand so if all goes well this week Monday i will be doing my mask fitting and Thursday 24 i will be starting my chemo kinda of weird they are starting it before the radiation but i guess they have a reason to their approach thank you for all the support and prayers it truly means a lot to me hopefully everyday it will get a little better.I will try and stay posted as much as i can my family has been coming over a lot to keep me company.

    Glad to hear you're feeling a little better!
    I know for me, it helps to start doing just a few normal things. I think it distracts me from anything I might be worrying about or dwelling on.

    Remember that your doctors want you to go through this with as little discomfort as possible, and that includes mental discomfort. I had a really bad fear of nausea from the chemo. It was pretty close to a phobia. I'd never asked for any kind of depression or anxiety medication in my life and so it was hard to say... but I'm glad I did. The oncologist handling my chemo prescribed Lorazepam (which I would need for nausea anyway), and told me to take one whenever I felt anxious about anything, even beyond the nausea. They have been a big help, so if don't be afraid to ask your doctor for something similar.

    You're going to get through this and come out the other side ready to get back to the rest of your life. :-)

    In the last few weeks I have had 9 teeth extracted, and had to go back and have a part of a tooth bone removed, 1st Chemo was Tuesday, and so far so good, I just hope my streak of fear vs. reality stays on course. In my case my fears going into each procedure so far has been worse than the reality hope you find less pain in your future. No answer on RADs question, Im just doing Chemo for now and RADS in about 6 weeks. Just wanted to say Hey and hang in there. We all are praying for you.

    You've already gone through a lot, with a lot more to come, but you sound in good spirits--and that's a big part of the battle. Do whatever you can to stay rested, hydrated, and nourished--and find a way to laugh every once in a while!

    And, remember--your biggest enemy right now is not your cancer--it's the treatments, so follow what your docs say, ask questions, and always listen to what your body tells you it needs.

    I know you'll come through this OK.

    Chemo First ...Concurrent Last
    I don't think there is really any standard on which comes first, chemo or rads.

    It usually is up to the facility and what their standard is.

    For me I had nine weeks of chemo first, then seven weeks of weekly chemo concurrent with daily rads.

    Matt....sounds like you're doing better....I 'm so glad....
    the pain from your teeth will fade, and you're on the road to the big fight...it's the waiting that is hardest.

    I want to second what Laralyn said about the anti-depressants....I've gone 60+ years and never thought about taking them until I ran into this cancer hurdle. Lots of anxiety, and a kind of benevelence about living or dying...and I knew that wasn't the REAL me. So I asked for them....they have worked well for me.

    I'm so so glad you have a supportive family....makes all the difference, doesn't it?

    I think each doctor is different in their treatment approach, and it also may have to do with the type of cancer, stage , etc., I had chemo first , 1 all day session every 21 days of cisplatin, taxotore, & a 5FU punp,one week later had rads every day for 7 1/2 weeks , plus 1 concurrent chemo infusion of carboplatin.
