Pathology report came back clear

My wife, Amy, staged out at IIA IDC in October 2011. After 6 mos of chemo (Taxol/FAC) and a bi-lateral mastectomy with expanders, completed last Thursday, we were laying in wait to see if the lab results showed evidence of disease in her lymph nodes. Since the very beginning, her nodes have always been suspect and looked abnormal. We felt fairly certain the cancer had spread and that we would be looking at radiation and lymph node removal.

We got a call at noon that she had a complete pathological response to the chemo and her breast tissue and nodes were all clear. The good doc said a lot more than that, I honestly couldn't tell you most of it...all I heard was "she's clear." No radiation, no more chemo. Just resting and healing. By the end of this year we should be done with reconstruction and taking our 5 yr dance with Tamoxifen.

All the side effects that come with chemo, my young wife has. Blurred vision, extreme fatigue, teeth pain, nails falling off, weight gain...and still so beautiful to me. I know we will never be completely free of this disease, and I don't care. She's disease free today. We'll worry about tomorrow when it comes.

To the power of prayer and faith!

Tony

    How wonderful!
How wonderful! I love good news!

I agree with Eva, such a loving husband to tell her how beautiful she is. Even though I don't feel beautiful anymore, my Ed tells me everyday that I am. It really does a number on our body!!

Power to prayer and faith - YES!!

I'm so glad for you both!
What a relief for you both! You are so blessed to have each other! I have equally been blessed to have a wonderful husband at my side - it's always been the two of us against all that's been thrown at us, because whatever is thrown at one of us is thrown at both of us. We're a team and that's what the two of you sound like. Your news lifts us all up!

I hope you continue to have great news - you deserve it. The sun seems to shine more brightly, doesn't it?

    Thank God!

    Congratulations to you, and Amy!!!
Great News! Now, I think Amy can really ... start to heal from her bilateral surgery, chemo and all the stress associated with breast cancer.

Tony, you should also get a 'metal' for standing right next to Amy -- every step of
    her journey.

Continued Strength and Courage for all.

    Thank you!
Thank you for all your kind words. I showed this thread to my wife on my phone last night while she was in between meds. She thinks you are all so very sweet.

Today is 7 days since surgery and she is still not able to hold any solid food down. Increased our nausea protocol to try to stop this, which means more time asleep since drowsiness is the main side effect. Tomorrow we go back for are post surgery visits with the Oncologist, Surgeon, Plastic Surgeon = another full day at MD Anderson.

Some folks say that the MD in MD Anderson could mean Most of the Day, or Modesty Denied. I like to think it means Minus Disease. The people there are all so amazing, truly ate up with what they do. All strangers to us but that treat us like we grew up together. Very much like all of you here.

Thank you again for your kindness and prayers. We know we still have a long road to travel, it just has the perspective of downhill instead of up. Funny how one report can have such an impact.

Oh how I hate everything about cancer...
