Pain where the tumor was

in Head and Neck Cancer #1
So...Its definitely allergy season here in Salem Oregon and I got them bad.

I take a allergy med and it clears a bunch of the symptoms but not the pain that is right where I had pain when I was diagnosed.Still there even with a lortab.

I have a emergency scope set up for tomorrow with my onc but was hoping to get the CSN magic 8balls experience or opinion on this. My Canecr was NPC and my Onc told me I was clear last appointment...last day of treament was 11-11-11.

    intermittent pain seems to be the last thing
    to vanish after treatment. I'm still dang sore where the tumor was, ending treatment only 10 weeks ago. But this kind of thing can go on for a very long time post treatment. I remember how touchy it was to have the ent onc stick his finger down my throat at palpate the darn place with my first cancer. That persisted for prolly a year.

    I think your scope is fine, but you have every reason to be sore. Only six months out, and the area stirred up with allergies.

    Yep, What He Said...
    I had mystery pains, aches and swelling in the general area for well over a year. Not sure if the reality ever sets in that more than likely it's just residual and after effects from the rads mainly...still getting my monies worth from those suckers.

    I had several unscheduled scopes from my ENT...always the same residual and assurance it was normal... (or maybe I should say expected).

    Anyways my ENT is awesome, always told me that he would much rather I be pro-active, not re-active.

    Anyways, have it checked out, if nothing else it will satisfy your anxiety for a bit.

    Kyle ..thanks for asking that question.....I also feel much better due to John and Pats answer ....I have asked so many questions / posts on thie boart I was afriad to ask anymore.. :) I was having pain where my tumor was (base of tongue) and it has been 3.5 months (and I also have a hard / swollen / tight area under my chin ...

    So thanks Pat and John for always relaying your experience .....made my night a bit better too.

    No problem...., glad to be of some help....

    Also, due to the radiation it's also not uncommon to have the area become hard and tight where exposed.

    I believe actually back in the day they used to refer to that symptom as "wooden neck syndrom".

    It's actually due to certain degrees of fibrosis;

    All due to allergys...Onc told me I shouldnt be working as much as I have though. Tough to do when you got insurance to keep going.
