Cells regenerate when you sleep
I'm about 1 week out and am getting in bed at 8 every evening and taking naps whenever I can too. I'm normally high energy too but because I can't wait to get back to that state, I'm allowing myself this time to sleep a lot. My friend who is a nurse says that cells regenerate when we sleep so it makes sense . I've always been a daydreamer so I can't answer to that other than to say I'm the worst daydreamer when tired. Enjoy and accept your healing time .0 -
you are the sickest u will be about now.
Your body has just been hammered and you need lots of repair time. so sleeo a lot, but get the right diet too. And start an exercise program. Not an overwhelming one, but get started. Also, regarding being sleepy, I was really really sleepy too, after my first rads. Got my thyroid checked, and It was way out. Ive been on replacement ever since.
Be well.

Same thing with me. I'm a month out of rads and still feel the need to take an afternoon nap everyday. It lasts an hour and puts me right again. I did go three days w/o napping a few days ago because I was really busy around the house and running errands. I have not mentioned it to my doctor but now it may be best to get his advice. I just figured my body is recovering slowly and I'll be back to a normal energy level in several months.
When you think about it, our bodies have been through so much trauma and it needs lots of rest to heal. I also get 9 hours sleep a night and still need that nap. The only thing I haven't done is start exercising. That is next on my list but I'm a great procrastinator.

I was riding my bike working at as a painter etc but the Rads wow. They were right when they told me it takes months to heal. I also lost a tonne of weight and joked about it being better than Jenny C I am 5 months out and still have tired sessions not much but have just gotten back to my pre weight. Its normal you just survived a nuclear blast.0 -

Hello Lumpy, you are doing great so quick after treatment. I am almost one year out (May 11) and I STILL LOVE MY AFTERNOON NAPS. My thyroid was fried, taking synthetic now, but still feel like I need that one hour nap to function... it is on top of about 6-7 hours of sleep if I can get it. Have some insomnia, so my hubby says I have my days and nights mixed up. Don't worry about sleeping too much, but do get your thyroid checked. The rads do a number on the thyroid so it's very common it has stopped functioning correctly and that could be adding to the tired feelings. Good Luck and keep up the fight !0 -

Seems like the thyroid is something that frequently goes south. My med onc says mine will need to be checked every 6 months for ever.0 -

More than likely too early for the Thyroid to present any problems....
I too had thyroid levels moving in that southward direction...TSH and Free T4 are also checked a few times a year for me as well.
The TSH has been high since a few months post rads (though I didn't have any symptoms). Eventually I did start feeling fatiqued.
Tried the Synthroid briefly, but was having a few problems initially so it was tabled until the blood levels became more a factor.
As of the last blood work, the TSH has actually came back within normal ranges...we'll see where it settles out.
I haven't been tired like I was.
Best,
John0
