had squamous cell in upper esophagus, what stage are you?

Maybe you have not been staged yet. It is a shock and just like everyone says you walk around the first week or days feeling like it is a bad dream only you don't wake up, it is really happening. If I can give any help to you, I would be more than happy to. My squamous cell was Stage III with a positive lymph node so just like William has said same treatment with chemo and radiation first but higher up like in your chest. I had the open surgery. I had great drs here in Baltimore. It was not possible for me to travel so I chose the best place with a dr very familiar with esophagectomies. So William has given you very valueable info, he was my first ray of hope because I did not know that I had a chance of surviving till I came on this board. There are many survivors here, it is a tough road but one worth traveling. take care, good luck and keep us all informed of your diagnostic progress.
