    Osteosarcoma
Hi BradsMom! My 14 year old daughter was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right tibia this past March, she did chemo until July and then she had limb salvage surgery. Now she's going through more chemo. Her tumor was located about 5 inches below her right knee and we ultimately agreed to proceed with an allograft, although she seriously considered amputation because of her previous sports involvement. I cannot emphasize enough the need to be as fully informed of all of your options as possible, of course you may have already asked all of the questions but we examined titanium prosthetics, allografts, and amputation at length and discussed them with my daughter's surgeon in great detail. Good luck to you, your son, and your family!

Hi, Im Victor69 who has had the first sucessful tibia transplant. I was operated in Memorial Slone Kettering in New York. I recomed that if anyone needs treatment for any type of cancer to go there. My grandmother had colon cancer and she was also saved their in 1991, she has passed since but she didnt die from it. She was cured for 7 years before her death. I believe anyone can be saved their, God willing...

    Ak amputee
Hi I am just about 18 and am battling osteosarcoma since I was 16. I was like ur story so far. Had pain in my knee and went to doctor. They said nothin was wrong, they were wrong!! Make sure u get a x ray or MRI and hav a well recommended doctor. Will save u trouble if u hav cancer and found out early. I almost found out to late and am very lucky to be alive. If i found out early I would not hav my leg gone or hav cancer in both lungs( left lung surgery).

    Amputation

Hello I was diagnosed when I was 17 I had 6 mo of chemo followed by surgery to remove 3/4 of my femur, knee joint and partial tibia.  I followed my surgery by another 6 months of Chemo.  After a year I was forced to go back into surgery again due to the implant in my hip coming loose.   I was then put into surgery experimental at the time that did not work being on crutches for a year.  I was asked and told multiple times by multiple Doctors that I should just amputate my leg to save my self the trouble.  After 2 specialists 3 more surgeries a better technique and 16 years I still have my leg!  I do know at some point in my life this will not be the case.  How does this apply to your case I’m not sure but maybe it will give you hope..

    hello

my story sounds a lot like many of yours. My son had a large swollen ankle, told it was definitely begnine, no question about it. Surgeon removes it, a week later we get call saying it’s osteosarcoma. Now he’s facing amputation or if possible a fuzzed ankle. Just started chemotherapy, and trying to find a doctor with a better surgery outcome. We live in ohio and my son is 17. Im sure i feel like everyone here , just wanting the best for our children.
