in Ovarian Cancer #1
my beautiful courageous bride of 40 years has muscinous adenocarcenoma. had debulking surgery feb 23, 2012, removed omentum , recovering great. had 4 carbo/taxol chemos prior, PET showed significant shrinkage. onco still cant identify source of cancer. poorly differientiated, . anyway thanks for your help and support. this looks like a wonderful site.

    PRAYERS TO YOU AND YOUR WIFE
    You are so sweet to refer to your wife as your 'bride'. My husband calls me his 'bride' all the time, and it melts my heart (we will celebrate our 37th anniversary in July). Your wife is blessed to have a wonderful, supporting, loving husband, especially at a time like this, as I am!

    It sounds as though she is progressing wonderfully. Have they staged this cancer even though it cannot be identified? I am not familiar with a situation like that (poorly differientiated). Does that make it difficult to find a suitable plan? Either way, the shrinkage must be evidence enough that you are on the right track.

    We would love to hear from your wife, if she doesn't mind sitting at the computer from time to time. She'll find this to be a wonderful site, filled with courageous survivors, lots of info, and many new friends. Prayers for her continued success!

    Sorry to hear about your wife , glad she is recovering well however.
    Correct me if I am wrong but poorly differentiated refers to the way the cells appear under a microscope,poorly differentiated meaning very abnormal in appearance, you may have be more familiar with the grade ( high / low).

    Have they considered that it might be colon cancer that has metastasized to the ovaries and peritoneum? Mucinous adenocarcinoma is a type of colon cancer. I am also a colon cancer survivor. I know of a woman who was misdiagnosed as having ovarian cancer when it was colon cancer that had metastisized to the ovaries. I also know of a guy with colon cancer in the lungs but they never found the primary cancer in the colon. The body can wipe out the original tumour after it has metastasized to other areas. It doesn't happen often but it does happen. Treatment for colon cancer is very different than for ovarian. The chemo drugs used are not the same.

    Mucinous ademocarcinoma
    I also had a mucinous ademocarcinoma that was wrongly diagnosed as ovarian cancer. I have stage four colon cancer. During the treatment for ovarian cancer the tumors grew 50%. I also had neurological problems and hair loss from the treatments. A second opinion and a colonostomy revealed that it was in fact colon cancer.Since the proper treatment there has been some reduction in tumor growth, but the delay in getting a proper diagnosis resulted in a bowel obstruction requiring a colostomy. Given my experience I highly recommend everyone get a second opinion as soon as possible!
