Sounds like a NED is on the way.
Icemamtoo
Doug, iceman's appraisals are usually on the button and I expect and hope he's right on this one.
I'm currently awaiting my 1st post-2nd-op CT but with somewhat less favourable prospects. You were chromophobe and stage 3 (and 2), with expansion through the renal capsule but not Gerota's Fascia all of which interests me since I am/was (?) (the big question!) chromophobe but stage 4 with expansion through the capsule and also through Gerota's, leading to a new tumour in the renal fossa.
You wanted yours to be clear cell! You were actually better off with chromophobe, which is indolent and has a better prognosis than clear cell (unless it goes sarcomatoid) and is less likely to metastasise. So, your chances of non-recurrence are pretty good. [My situation is very different with sarcomatoid de-differentiation - change overnight from the best end of the spectrum (chromophobe) to the worst end of the spectrum (sarcomatoid chromophobe)].
One factor that may be significant is the primary tumour location. Mine was in the bottom pole of my right kidney. Yours were in the left kidney but do you know where in the kidney they were located? With luck my second tumour was residual, rather than truly metastatic via bloodstream or lymph system and I may not have recurrences. I should think your prospects of totally clear scans with non-metastatic chromophobe are very good and I wish you luck with your forthcoming results.
At the moment I'm suffering annoying sinus problems due to a heavy 'flu'ey cold (first for years) which I'm just coming out of but, like you and Mike ('braswelm'), I've tended to have allergic rhinitis symptoms on and off for most of my life. Your sinus problem seems to have been unresponsive - have you found any way of improving the situation or is it still much the same and have you managed to keep your weight down?
Stay well.0 -

Not sure of the exact location of my tumors. May ask Dr. on Tuesday.I've known that my chromophobe tumors were better than having clear cell. My biggest worry is that they are watching some "small" cysts on my right kidney.
As for my sinus problems, the sinus surgery has sure helped with the opening of the air ways. The original problem of everything tasting and smelling bad has had about a 75% improvement. Have about given up on that being any better. Don't see the ENT again for another 3 months. But for sure that's all that saved me. Guess that was the way the Lord had to tell me something was wrong with my kidney, because I probably still wouldn't have known...
What seems odd to me is the great feeling you get after a NED for a while only to have anxiety again before the next round of CT's and the waiting on the results.
We'll know again on Tuesday!!!!0 -
Not what we wanted.....
We went to Urologist today and the results were not what we wanted. The cyst that was on the other kidney is growing. They think it is cancer and not a cyst, also there is another one in the middle and it was not even there before. They are setting us up to go to a specialist that freezes the cancer cells(Cryotherapy). The doctor will call tomorrow with dates, wheres and what's.

No, it's not wrong Doug and I'm MAD for you too. Keep us posted.robert_douglas_smith said:Not what we wanted.....

I have a better word,i was Pissed off when i found out i had a new tumor in my one remaing kidney,to make matters worse i was told back in december i was cured (YHEA RIGHT).I wanted to have the same procedure you are having Robert( cryoablation )but the hospital i go to does not do this procedure, the one they do is called radio ablation,so instead of freezing my tumor they are going to fry it.It seems that your doctor has detected these tumors while they were still small which is good and if you feel the same way i do you are a little anxious to get these little devils out,i will be hoping for the best for you Robert so take care0 -

Mike and Doug,
They say "Don't get mad, get even!", I say do both. I like the phrase "ATTACK WITH EXTREME PREJUDICE!" and both of you are doing just that. It has been found early which gives you the best chance at a good prognosis, in addition there are drugs and trials in your arsenal, at this point the fat lady is a 99 pound weakling on a diet.
Hang in there,

Wishing all the best for you Doug.
Doug,
You were one step ahead of me as I had surgery in December. Your posts helped me deal with the, at times, overwhelming process. I thank you and I wish you the best.

Appointment at Saint Joseph's Hospital tomorrow for 1st consultation. Hope procedure will be soon!!!
St. Joseph hospital called this morning and told us that my surgery is scheduled for next Wednesday. Check in at 7 AM for procedure at 9AM. They will preform cryosurgery on two masses in my remaining kidney. there are two more they will treat in six weeks. Will be a never ending battle I'm afraid. But wee'll take one step at a time and fight every battle to win.....0 -

They will only freeze to masses at a time, so we already know that I'll have to go back in six weeks for another treatment(Round Two). My doctor at St. Josephs thinks there are a total of four masses in the kidney. He said that there may be more. Explained the Cat Scans from the urologist were views from like a peace of Texas Toast slices. The scan he will do will be like deli slices. Hopefully he will find no more than the four already found.
