12th day of fever

Doubtful..
I'm doubtful as for the thyroid causing the fever...
Are you not in contact with the ENT or Chemo MD? I am still very much in contact with my ENT. The first year I was totally in contact with both my ENT and Chemo MD...my GP didn't seem to know squat when it came to anything related the post treatment residual, symptoms or remedies.
I would get with your ENT if you don't get anything favorable from your GP.
Have you tried Tylenol or similar to control the fever inbetween seeing your MD. I would have thought the hospital would have suggested that.
Best,
John0 -
Have no answers for you...
but wondering if they can't find the source of the fever, if they are treating the fever itself? I sure feel for you, honey....it's a long time for him to have a fever with no answers.
Sending prayers, positive thoughts...and a BIG virtual hug...

We went in at 11:00 PM and they tried to contact his GP when they could not find a source for the fever and they could not get him. They finally got his onco and she told the ER doctor to tell my husband to follow up with his GP and that if he would not see him on Monday, that she would squeeze him in. I am going to call his ENT and see what they say. Whoever I see Monday, I am going to push for further testing.0 -

No updates... My husband is SICK and we went to his GP yesterday and he agrees, no source that he can see for the fever. He decides to do an Echo to see if he has a heart valve infection and they can squeeze us in for next week and then do a follow up a week after that. How about, hell no!!! I am sorry that is not good enough for me. He needs test ran like yesterday. I have him seeing another doctor today for a second opinion. I am so upset called my mom in tears this morning. My husband is at his breaking point, this morning he was sheding a tear and asking why god is singling him out. I dont know whar to do next if this doctor does not help us. We have been to the ER, GP yesterday and a GP today for a secon opinion. This morning he woke up this morning with fever, we are day 14 today.0 -

With a fever that high and that long, arndog, I'm like you: they aren't going to get rid of me with "fever of unknown origin".
Make sure he is continuing to drink plenty of liquids: dehydration will land him in the hospital. Watch for dark/small amounts of urine.
I'm sorry y'all are going through this. I know sometimes they can't locate the source of a fever but this one has gone on a long time.0 -

I called his heart doctor to see if he can squeeze him in for an echo to speed up progress and the nurse calls back and says he does not need an echo he needs to see his cancer doctor. Yep, I am at work crying and to top it off my husband was feeling great for a few months and decided to go back to work and a week before he starts the fever starts, he worked one week with fever and this week he could not get up Monday or today to go, so he called and quit his job today. I am just heartbroken for him.0 -

Crystal, as John says, I would also try calling the ENT and/or oncologist. Someone needs to take this seriously. As someone else said, try to keep him hydrated... force the fluids so he doesn't end up with additional issues. KEEP CALLING UNTIL YOU GET an appt -- BE A B.... squeeky wheel, all that. Hope you can get some help and soon.0 -

So sorry to hear that it sounds like you are really going through it, both of you. Seems like nobody is willing to take responsibility for your hubby and someone needs to. That fever for that long should have been investigated more substantially by now.
Hope something breaks for you - good luck

Crazy
Sorry you guys are being tested so. I could not imagine a fever lasting so long.
Very sorry, too, that he had to give up his job - I know that must be hard on him.
I wouldn't think the thyroid is the cause of the fever - even though thyroid does help regulate temp. I think having a low temp is a sign of underactive thyroid.
I'm hoping that you all are having better luck getting in to see docs.0 -
not as high
so sorry to hear your hubby is have this problem. post treatment many years ago i carried a low to med. max of like 100 grade temp for 3-4 months. had many doc's check it out and they could not figure out what cause was. i seemed to be very tired most of the time. i tried to work some in the beginning as much as i could and as time went along i finally put in some full days and weeks. i will say i was tired after getting home and would sleep, sleep and more sleep. i guess i would call that listening to my body and if tired i rested. in the end it finally went away and never knew what caused it.
hope it goes away very soon.

Today is day 16 of fever and severe fatigue. He is a year out, one would think the worse is over. He is saying the back of his neck is tender to the touch. He is going for an echo on Monday and hopefully his doc will take a minute to see him.0 -

Have you considered seeing another MD....seems like his is apparently too busy or just doesn't care?

over 2 weeksjim and i said:wow! I can't believe this
wow! I can't believe this has gone on this long. I would be camped out in one of the doctors offices offices until I got answers or in the hospital demanding treatment.
Praying for a quick resolution.

Is his fever still running over 100*? I would think a responsible Dr would investigate until found- tests done until it is, which may include hospitalization. I don't know your history with your GP, but it would seem you should look for another GP if the one you have is nickel and diming it.
Thyroid does affect body temp, and play a major part in regulating the body's metabolism. Most of us feel cold a lot of the time, and my body temp typically runs around 97.8-98.2, though I recently found it at 96.5 on a day when I wasn't feeling right. Fever, to me, is a sign the body is working overtime in dealing with a problem- like a virus. One of the signs of C I've learned of since my C happened is the "night sweats," which I noticed in the months before my lymphs enlarged.
Again, what actual temps is he running?
