Yet another life saved by Harley Davidson - I've lost count of the number here!
ivfour, could you remind me of a few details that I've probably forgotten? Your tumour was large at over 10cm and you're doing wonderfully on Votrient. What was the sub-type, stage and grade? Did you have mets at dx or have you had since then? How was Votrient selected as the appropriate treatment? You've had good results with manageable side-effects - what have been the most troublesome side-effects?
Yours is another encouraging history and I hope it continues so indefinitely!
I am late reading the posts this morning. I, too, had a lap partial on my right kidney. It was April 3rd and they sent me home on April 4th. I had a relatively easy time of it. I am going back to work on April 23 Monday. I was on spring break when I had the surgery, so I only had to take last week and this week off as I already had a week of not teaching to recouperate. So, you probably won't get to read this until after your surgery and your return home....so I will skip how the operation goes. When you get home, you might need a little help getting into bed and getting out of bed. The IV of fluid they give you at the hospital will be in your system so you will have to get up and go to the bathroom at least 4 times every night to get rid of it. Oh well, it gets you up and moving. Your bowels will be asleep for anywhere between 5 and 10 days. Recommendations: 1) Take all medications required by your doctor on time. Even if you start feeling better, take the pain meds every 6 hours - or whatever - as required. 2) Take the colace - stool softener - every morning and every night as required. I did - and by day 5 I was already regular.3) Take the stomach acid reducer if they prescribe one - takes care of the stomach acid also a side effect of the anesthesia. 4) Drink the 8 - 8 oz. glasses (4 bottles) of water daily. 5) Walk around the house or outside and slowly build up. These simple tips will help you recover quickly. Last, stay on this website as there is a ton of support and love here. Also, lots of knowledge and helpful hints. Good luck and see you back here in a couple of days.0 -
Good luck
Good luck to you! I had an open partial nephrectomy in January. I was nervous, but it went well. The first few days are rough, but you will get through it. It gets better. Don't rush your recovery. Take as much time as you need. A lot of people are sending you positive healing energy. Please let us know how you are doing.0 -

I don't remember all of the information but it was RCC Stage IV with mets to the lungs. I believe there were about 4-5 nodules in right lung and questionable nodules in my liver at the time of the CT scan from the wreck and surgery. Since then the radiologist and oncologist feel that they'll cues in the liver are fatty tumors. It was also hard to tell because I had a lacerated liver from the wreck. He first tried to put me on Affinitor but insurance wouldn't cover it and said I had to try the votrient first (good thing I guess). I guess the most troublesome has been the diarrhea and loss of appetite. My liver enzymes stay high normal now that I Amon 400mg instead of regular dose of 800mg. I have blood pressure that runs around 140/90 and continue with same bp med. I think he felt that votrient had the least side effects and had show promising results is why he chose that treatment first. Oh anothernsideneffect is my white hair but it has been kind of good, they are always giving me the senior discount and I am almost 52. I had started letting my hair go gray and now I have bright white hair. My husband and I just completed our Harley groups annual ride to Fredericksburg this past weekend. This was the ride we wrecked on last year so it was very special to be a part of it this year. I will post again after my scans0
