I need help
I can't believe I still don't know what I should know. Anyway, I wanted to post 2
paragraghs from the radiologe site. I am unable to do so. Therefore, I will post 2
separate posts.
I believe I have had only pet scans since I was dx in Sept 2009. I thought I read
at one time, there is a combined Pet Scan and Ct Scan. True. I would think the benefits of
both done at the same time would be better????? Can someone give me info on a
Pet Scan and Ct Scan given alone?? Also, info on a combined CT Scan and Pet Scan???
Below is my first paragraph:
Today, most PET scans are performed on instruments that are combined PET and CT scanners. The combined PET/CT scans provide images that pinpoint the location of abnormal metabolic activity within the body. The combined scans have been shown to provide more accurate diagnoses than the two scans performed separately.
Look for my next post. Maggie Forget my next post. I am adding my thoughts to this post.
Question????? Is there a reason why I wasn't give a combined Scan?? I did note from
the radiology site the radiation is no big deal, and the benefits out way the risks.
It will be just over a year when I am due for my next Pet Scan. I must question my
oncologist about the combined scan. Help is needed from anyone. Maggie

Just passing by and saw your post Maggie and .....
You truly should get the answer on why the diagnostic equipment you mentioned was used and not other types from your oncologist as he/she knows your case best. Of course do your research online but really he should spell it out for you as to why he chose that special diagnostic form.
Also, just for your own peace of mind, maybe you can get a second opinion from another oncologist that specializes in your particular type of cancer as to what he would suggest in terms of testing and that second opinion mayb ease your mind that you are getting the best possible tools for your specific situation.
We all want the best possible information about our cancers and so with open communication between you and your oncology team, research you do for yourself plus trolling the internet doing research, plus asking those on this site what they think are all great ideas that will put together a thorough answer as to whether you are receiving the best treatment that there is.
I hope you get the answers that you need.
Blessings,

Dear Bluerose,
Welcome back. I always look forward to reading your posts and advice.
I was DX in Sept 2009 with marginal cell B Lymphoma. Stage 1, low grade NHL.
Sub type Extrananodal marginal zone B cell NHL. I was DX when My small bowel
perforated Sept2009. I was treated with Rituxan once weekly for 4 weeks in Dec 2009..
Bone Marrow biopsy, negative.
I feel so foolish now. I went over all my scans. Oct 2009 Pet Scan,
June 2010 Pet Scan, Jan 2011 PET AND CT SCAN. As you can see, I did have a combo
CT and PET SCAN. Based on on the last 2 scans, total remission. Officially Jan 2011.
I am due for another scan In August 2012. I have also had 2 colonoscopies, negative.
All blood tests are positive also.
Bluerose, I really appreciate the info you posted. Since I feel you know more than
me, please post what other DX tools should I have??? I do trust my oncologist, but??
I appreicate hearing from others on this site, any suggestions they can offer. Please
post any suggestions to me.
I am so sorry for my original post. I should of read the reports more closely. I thought
they were Pet Scans only. I realize I am in remission right now. I also know things
could change. I am so glad I found this site. Every post I read I learn more and more.
Thank you Bluerose for your advice. I look forward to reading your next post.
