A Miracle!

A Miracle has happened.

I received the pathology report today. It is not cancer. It was a tumor that causes loss of kidney function; but, I can live with that.

The doctor and PA called within a few minutes of each other. They were both very excited. They rarely get to deliver good news.

My husband and I were both on the phone with the doctor. I have a tumor, I do have some loss of kidney function; but, it is not cancer. I still had the best treatment for this type of tumor or there would have been more loss of kidney function and possible loss of kidney.

The doctor said don’t jump up and down and make it start to bleed. I am hardly containing myself. The doctor was very excited himself.

I need to go back in three months for a blood test and a Kidney scan to see how my kidney function is doing and then I think I am done.

Thank you all for your support.

Miracles do happen!

    Thank you!
Thank you! I don't know how it happened. It usually doesn't roll that way for me. I did have a lot of people praying for me. The Presbyterians, Methodists, Catholics, Mormons, the Lakota Indians, Muslims plus you all to name a few. That is all I can attribute it to.

I hope this gives all of you hope also. I know it is hard to keep the hope; but, that is all we have. It sure has been a wake up call for my husband and myself.

    Miracle- yes!!!
This is wonderful news! I think I know how you feel because 18 months ago I had an open partial nephrectomy for an "RCC" kidney tumour, went through all the pain and angst and waited 6 weeks for the path report (all the while preparing my affairs and chewing my nails etc) and it came back finally- Metanephric Adenoma. Very rare and more importantly, benign.

Did you find out what your tumour was? I still have polycythemia as a result of the MA, but it is improving. Wish I could say the same about the flank bulge and lopsidedness!

    Blessings on you all!

Thank you for the kind words.
No, I didn't find out exactly what it is. It does not fit any exact description but does have some features of melanoma which I have had. I am not even going there. There is no cure. At least there are things to try but when I had it initally there was nothing. Nothing works that they are trying so I don't even want to know.

For those with RCC be very glad that is what you have. Look up melanoma if you want a wake up call. I think that was why I wasn't as concerned with the RCC. There was at least something to try and it sometimes worked.

When I posted I did not have RCC, I felt like I was dumped here so I just stayed on for little darlin to make sure she is okay for surgery.

I wish I would have received some continued support. I still had a partial nephrectomy but I guess if I got lucky no one wanted to hear that. I am so glad a few people answered.

This is an odd website. I feel that those people that don't want to have treatment are not given the support that they should and there is only the attitude of go for everything or no support. Good luck but no further support. I don't mean me for this just others that have posted looking for the it's okay if you don't want to do everything out there.

Sorry if some don't want to hear that; but that is what I fell and I see another new person that looks like that is what they are asking for.

I did not know you have the melanoma. I must have missed that post?? I have read the 'emotional' thread and I had my meltdown this week. Not one, but THREE people I ran into said they heard I didn't have cancer - from other people. Two were at work and one who is the wife of the doctor in town here and the mother of my doctor. I started getting really angry...I started printing off my biopsy results and attaching a description of different types of cancer and highlighting my type and giving people copies of it. I am so mad. I related to the person on the 'emotional' thread because now everything is back to 'normal'. I am cooking supper, I am going to work and doing my job, there are no more questions like "How are you feeling?" I appear to be ok so they assume I am ok. And...I know they have there own lives to live...I am not saying that people should be all over me. I realize that my sisters and my close friends did call and ask how I was the first week or two which I value. I am angry at my fiance for escaping any chance he could as soon as I was 'out of the woods' - able to get up and sit down by myself and get something to eat/drink if I needed to. And, yes, this website wants to know you are ok. And they hope you continue to improve. Myself, I have not been on here much because going back to work has been so tiring (junior high teacher - yuk! And there have been behavior issues that have drained me already). I find that the regulars on here are very supportive of newbies. Some are here to show others they have survived for 10 years without their kidney. Hooray! This helps those who are going to have the radical neph. Some are on here and undergoing promising trials. Hooray! This helps those who have mets. Some are on here because they can find info and links on any topic. Hooray! This helps those of us who are technologically challenged. And there are those who come and go. They use this site as they need to for support, then they go on. Don't feel bad if you feel like you are alone on this site. Jump in with the newbies and tell them your story and your progress. Tell them how scared you are/were of pain and how you handled it. It will help them and it will help you move on too. Now...

Tired? I took a nap every day when I came home from the hospital. And I slept well at night. Your body took a beating from the inside. It will take time to heal and have energy. It is all I can do to go to work, come home, eat, watch a little TV and go to bed for 8-9 hours. On Sat. I sleep in another hour or two. On Sun. I take a nap. My doctor said they allow 4 weeks before a person goes back to work. They were adamant about that. I went back slightly earlier. He said two months before I feel like my old self. You will get there and so will I.....let me know how you are doing. Sometimes a private message is easier with me as I don't always have time to seach the threads. Take care, Jan

    Dumped?
You say that this board dumped you when you told us you didn't have RCC? And You needed more support that you didn't get? So sorry for any misunderstanding. If you notice not all board members are kidney cancer patients. Spouses, parents and children post here to share information. But one has to open up and discuss what is on ones mind to recieve feed back. Some of us are more vocal than others. And it is because we do care. Not all of us are going to be cured. And egocentricity isn't our motivation. We consistantly reach out to all who need some compassion.

    Melanoma & RCC...
    Fishie,

If my attempt at humor added to your feeling of being dumped I sincerely apologize, no harm was meant. Stories like yours have great value here as more and more people search for answers and hope regarding RCC. From discussions lately there seems to be a relationship between RCC and melanoma, I think MDX is working for fox on both if I'm remembering correctly, perhaps it could help you someday if needed.

    Good, good news
I've been away from the board for a while, but just had to tell you I am so happy for your good news! Hopefully this group has help you be assured a person can get along pretty well with one or even less than one kidney. And I vote you can stay in the club. :)

    Fishie's news
MNG, it's good to see you back.

I hope the congratulations we have all given to Fishie are well-founded, especially considering all she's gone through in the past. My first thought was anxiety that her tumour isn't RCC, which would not have been too much to worry about, but metastatic melanoma (she mentioned in March that she has had melanoma in the past). However, her doctors have told her it's not cancer so I guess it can't be met. melanoma. Nonetheless, I'll be glad to hear that they've confirmed it was completely benign and that she has nothing further to worry about.

    Yes....and how are you feeling?
Fishee - I am reliving my surgery....then yours. Then our post op. And you are 3 weeks post op. So....at 3 weeks I wasn't normal, yet. But the worst was behind me. How are you? Do you have any pain at this point? Are you on pain meds still? Have you been able to go for walks longer than around the block? My problem was that I never was much of an exercise person in the last few years so I actually felt that I had to start something new - and I had gotten used to sitting on the couch and watching TV or reading. I actually have to talk to myself to psych myself up for that walk. Since I have a half hour drive home from work, I have that conversation, and by the time I get home I am determined to have that walk. Hope you are having an easier time of it on your 3 week anniversary. Jan
