7th day of fever

My husband is a year out from treatment. He just started back to work on Monday. BAM!!!!
He starts running a fever last Wednesday and is still running a fever today. The fever was at night the first 3 nights then it moved to off and on day and night. He says he has a mild headache around the top of his head. Other than that no other problems like sneezing, coughing, etc. I made an appointment to get his blood work yesterday. He is driving over after work burning up with fever to find out the lab does not have his paperwork. Yeah, he was pissed!!! I got that mess cleaned up and he went during his lunch hour today. We are going to wait for the results then schedule an appointment to see his doctor. I am baffled, not sure why he is running a fever for 7 days in a row. He only ran fever once during treatment and it lasted only a couple of hours. Any insighht anyone????

    See an MD Soon...
If it were me, especially going on seven days, because I know at a year post treatment, I would have never waited this long....get him in to see his MD ASAP.

Either his regular GP, or one of his cancer team MD's.

I'd presume he has an infection or something going on.

I could be wrong, but I always am pro-active, not re-active. If it turns out to be nothing serious great. If not, you are ahead of the ball.

    My thoughts anyways,

    Hoping for the Best
Hoping it is an infection of some sort, and you guys have already jumped on it with both feet. Hope he's enjoying being back to work (OK - as much as you can with a fever), and you're not too anxious for him being "out there". I would think it would be tricky at first, having your loved one return to the workplace where you can't keep track of them as well(maybe a coworker will nag about water intake) - not that YOU would nag about water intake, of course.

Has he been screened for MRSA??

I am MRSA + which means I am at a high risk of getting a Staph infection. I just recovered from one which made me collapse I was so sick.Fever is one of the signs.

I don't think he has been
I don't think he has been screened for MRSA. I don't know, the blood work is in, we are waiting for the doctor to go over the results. He ran a fever last night for about 4 hours peaking at 102. I tried to get him to go to the DR. today. They have an opening at 3:45, he does not want to leave work. AAAARRGGGHHHH!!!!! Skiff, I am with you, this needs to be looked into right now!!! I am worried, he is tired and run down and just not well. I am hoping it's some kind of infection. I will let you all know what the blood work shows.

    Infection
Reckon there's a decent chance it's an infection arndog, things like sinus infections don't always come with all the outward mucas etc, just a fever. I really hope it's something as mundane as that, but of course after going through what you have been through it is natural to fear the worst.

Fingers crossed for you it's a viral infection, good luck! I would usually be inclined to go to the GP first personally with a fever as they will do the whole chest, ears, throat etc and might be able to discover something less scary. Then bloods if they can't and if course the worrying.

Hubby needs to look after himself and forget about work for a minute! He is obviously braver than me...:-)

Although I know how he feels, I was back in work the morning after having a tumor removed from my neck. The result of that was I was run down and picked up a nasty virus the same week which took me weeks to get over!

I really hope it works out well and isn't what you fear.

    All the best

    Update
Called his GP and his blood work shows the following -

    Thyroid abnormal
Red Blood Cell a little low 4.04
    White Blood cell - normal

His GP pissed me off. I was getting the info from the nurse and I asked if the thyroid could be causing the fever and I told her he is a year out from being cancer free and how many days he was running the fever, the GP said for us to see his oncologist regarding the fever. I was told once you are out of treatment you see your GP for any fevers, coughs, sneezes ect. I feel like a dog chasing a tail. Just running in circles.

    GP...~ Ms...Arndog
My facility is all connected, but several locations within town. My GP is close to the house, my cancer center (same organization) is across town.

I found out quick that if I see my GP with anything remotely connected to H&N, he refers me to my ENT or Chemo MD. I think he's afraid to step on toes..

After giving me a prescription of strong motrin once when we thought I had a kidney infection going on, my chemo MD almost had a cow...apparently motrin isn't something to be taken if you have kidney problems.

Anyways, I've learned that my ENT and chemo MD both seem to have a lot more interest in keeping me healthy that my GP.

As for the thyroid, I personally doubt that's your hubbys problem. That abnormal thyroid is probably a result of his TSH or Free T4 being out of range, which is very common with radiation to the H&N.

But it's a very slow process, easily treated once it goes all the way out. Usually once it starts it doesn't return to normal.

For whatever reason mine (after three years of being out of normal ranges) has come back in on my last blood test...we'll see how that holds up.

Sooooo, what did they do other than refer you concerning the fever...?
