Hi Everyone--
I hope y'all had the best possible weekend and that your week is off to a good start.
I wanted to let all my friends on CSN know that I will be gone for a few days beginning April 19th. Thursday, I am leaving for Indiana, where I will be running in my very first marathon ever on Saturday, April 21st. I am both nervous and excited. It seems like a daunting challenge, but I have been training hard and really think I can do it. I am not out to set any speed records and I'm sure there will be lots of walking, since this race has a totally doable 6.5 hour time limit. Even if I finish with one minute to spare, I don't care! I will be running with a friend who is 21 years younger than I am, so we'll have to find our pace. I may be his "ball and chain" for 26.2 miles! I will be returning home on Sunday, the 22nd. and if I don't have a chance to post my results that day, I will no later than Monday, the 23rd., I promise!
I am telling you this because I have dedicated each mile to a person or group of persons who have touched my life in ways I could never imagine. My CSN friends mean so very much to me--you are my support system, even at over 3 1/2 years out of treatment. I can not imagine my life without knowing all of you! Therefore, I am dedicating mile 24 to all of you here and will be thinking of you as I cover that mile. I hope you'll think of me next Saturday and send me all the positive energy you can, as I will need all the help I can get! Just like when going through treatment, I will be taking it one step at a time, each step getting me closer to that finish line.
Everyone take care!
Hugs--
Martha

Good Luck!!!!
Martha,
You are an insipiration to all of us. Your knowledge of anal cancer has helped many people on this web site. I wish you the best of luck in the Marathon especially the 24th mile. I feel I know you personally after having read all your posts on this site. You have really been a great resource of information and compassion to all of us. I will be thinking of you Saturday. I will be celebrating with my family Saturday. My great niece, Zoey will be celebrating her first birthday.

Hi Martha - you are an amazing woman and I know you will do this with bells on! Keep us posted of your progress. Thoughts and prayers are with you today and always. Hugs, Marilyne
I think we all agree on what a great inspiration and valuable support person you have become for so many of us. When you look out into the crowd at Mile24 just imagine us all there cheering you on (maybe one of us will actually be there). Positive energy to see you through is already coming your way! Thumbs up to you!!!!!!0 -
Go, Martha, Go!
I admire you, too, Martha . . .for many reasons. You are a consistent, dependable, knowledgeable support for this board. Always diplomatic and tactful. Available. And you are a DOER. THAT'S what I like so much about you!
You go, girl. Mile one, mile 24, mile 26 or the remaining 385 yards, no matter where you are in this marathon, you are an inspiration. A true definition of 'survivor' and 'thriver.'
Thank you!!!
Love,
Angela0
