Checking In

Hi All:

Hope everyone had a Hoppy Easter! I got back from Hilton Head last week as a brief little vacation. While there visited Parris Island as my oldest brother (the only I have left) was a Marine and I really wanted to go and visit it. It was very impressive and I got him some great souvenirs.

I have some sad news. I had to put Rowdy Powdy down Tues. When I got back from G'burg in January I noticed one of his eyes was kinda funky. But I doctored it and it seemed to get better but then it got worse again and after trips to the vet and the doggy ophamologist he had glaucoma in it and it was enlarged and it was going to have to be removed plus he had lost sight in the other eye and it showed signs of glaucoma developing. He would have been 14 in June and I felt this was going to be the best thing. It has been so upsetting as Rowdy was the one that when I walked thru the door on Aug. 21, 2010 he knew his daddy was gone. So I figure Blue met him at the Rainbow Bridge and they and their daddy are now together. I did have him creamated and will receive his urn sometime next week. (They had to order the urn as I wanted the same one Blue had.) So now it's just Sammy and me, but I do have a new buddy coming April 30. Went and picked him out last nite. He's a sheltie; five weeks old and his name is Chargee. A friend of mine's daughter when she was little couldn't say Charlie so she called him Chargee! Charlie's good buddy at K-mart he worked with so long that was in personnel called Charlie Charlie Boy all the time and I though that would be cute too, but not sure how his parents would take to it and after all we had enough rigamarole with them that Charlie's wishes were to be cremated. They've finally gotten over that I think, especially his Dad. So I'm sticking with Chargee! Charlie on the other hand would think there was no higher honor I could give him than to name the new puppy after him! However, when I told my mother-in-law about this on Tues. she was thrilled with the name and thinks I should call him Chargee Boy! Sammy the dachshund is really sad as he's still looking for him but I told him he had a new buddy coming soon! I have had friends say don't you want a female dog since you've had males and been the only female for so long and my answer is, "No, It's good to be Queen!" I did take picture last nite and hopefully it will come thru.

Hope everyone is doing all right out there and I'll try not to stay away so long this time.
God Bless!

    Chargee Boy....
He looks like a cute little fellow Jan....very sad about having to put Rowdy down, but as you know he his with the rest of the men now....

I'm sure Chargee will give you years of loving and learn all about the men before him.

Hey...Parris Island, my old stompin grounds...did you think of me too, LOL....

I spent a few months there back in late 1973, I'm sure there is a little of my blood and sweat in the soil.

God Bless the Queen with many years of joy and happiness...

    Best,
    John

I'm so sorry you had to put your baby down....
it is always a heartbreaking decision, but we pet lovers know when we pick our puppy out, that it is us who will ultimately have to do the last great kindness. Chargee will fill the void in your heart...puppies keep you so busy, it's hard to think of anything else!

I laughed when you said "No, it's good to be Queen"...ha! So true!

Yes I Did Think of You
    John:

Sorry I didn't mention I thought of you but I did remember you were a marine and I did think of you while we there. They have a really cool museum and it's free and I got my brother two t-shirts, one that fatigue looking green that said "Earned, not given" Parris Island and one that says "Semper Fidelis" It's not a slogan; it's a fact and a book that's entitled "Once a recruit - always a marine and oh, I did get a bumper sticker for my car and a t shirt for me and they both say, "My brother is a marine!" It really was fun and now the old officers quarters is a restaurant called Traditions that's open to the public but they had quit serving lunch by the time we got there. Jerry was there in 63/64 something like that. Anyway it was time very well spent. Glad you thought Chargee Boy was a cutie and thanks for the comforting words about my Rowdy Powdy!

    Hi Jan

It is so hard, my Black Lab was 14 when I had to let her go, one of the hardest things I ever did. She was one of my children; I held her paw when she passed.

Thanks for sharing with us, God bless
