I hate to ask who is next for their surgery. I don't have anyone on my calendar.

I ask this because I think it is me. I am next Friday the 13th. My new lucky day. I hope there is no one else before me. That is a good sign.

Please let me know if you are having surgery soon so I can say a prayer for you.

    J_rod here! You will be just fine. Are you having a lap robotic partial? Or something else? Read my post to you on my "Tues fast approaching" thread. There were so many people praying for me it made me immune! Seriously. This site, the people at work that care about me, the church, my neighbors, my family....my fiances family...etc.etc. There is power in prayer. Since no one else is scheduled for Friday all of the prayers on this site will go for you. I think about you and littledarlin' everyday now because I just came from where you are now. I am so happy it is all over with. Keep this thought in your mind...how happy you will be when it is over and you have recovered and especially when you poop for the first time :) Then you will know all is normal. One thing I got from the people here is to not take the meds when you hurt, take it on schedule. My doctor only gives regular strength Tylenol alternating with Motrin (they don't allow more than 1400 mg of Tylenol per day). Yesterday I decided I didn't feel like I needed it. Then I remembered what they said here, stay on the scheduled medication and don't miss a dose. I have taken my antacids (needed for side effects from anesthesia), colace (same), Tylenol and Mortrin (for pain). That's it. The first night I did take a pain med (a script-Tramedol- I had when I had diverticulitis really bad), but the side effects were too much for me so that was enough of that. It did get rid of whatever pain I had that night, but when the side effects are worse than the cure, I say forget it. You will be great! Two prayers a day for you and three on operation day from me.

    I got the shakes
    and headaches which didnt go away with tylenol. Nothing major but i felt like i was on drugs. did not like that spooky feeling like I was in another world. Plus it was the next day and I was already feeling better. Dont be afraid to post..get your questions answered. Happy Bunny Day

    Medicines and side-effects
    Fishie, you really are worrying more than you need to. Follow j_rod's example. You'll be given all necessary anaesthesia and pain meds for your op and appropriate pain-killers for after it. Do as Jan did and take the painkillers on schedule for the first few days. If you do so, and have the pain under control, you'll heal faster and then be able to stop the pain-killers sooner. I was on diamorphine briefly after my op the other day, then on paracetamol (Tylenol/acetominophen) plus Tramadol. The latter is much more powerful (an opioid) with corresponding se's. Jan had shakes, and that spaced-out feeling, I got headache and sweats. I found I could cut down almost immediately on the Tramadol, after taking it for 3 days in hospital and then a day or so at home. I'm off it completely now and am stopping the paracetamol today, feeling almost no pain. Just remember that worrying is understandable and natural but, apart from a couple of days of pain after the op, there isn't really anything to worry about very much about.

    You might also if you had a very large operation and the doctor didn't believe in giving much pain medication.

    This is a different surgeon but I don't trust them now. I can't take much because I have had the fundoplication and pills rest in that area until I can get at least 8 oz of water down. Everything has to be IV or liquid. Do you knnow liquid Tylenol (just regular) is only available by prescription now.

    Just a pain! I am so afraid of pain. And my pain tolerance on the minus scale. This time Friday I will be about one half way through my surgery. I will really be glad to get it over with.

    I hope the Toradol in the IV works for me.

    I wish I could sugar coat the pain. I can't. Everybody has a little different pain. Remember a couple things. Take medication as needed for pain. Do not take more than you need as pain medication can make you nuasious and it can make you constipated and you do not want to be constipated 1 week after abdominal surgery.

    Next remember for this little bit of pain you can tell people that you had cancer, not that you have it.

    Last, if little old me who broke out in a sweat when Arnold S. had a baby in the movie Junior can get thru this, anybody can.

    When do you go in?
    Do you go in to the hospital the day before surgery or the day of surgery?
