stage 4....do not give up

in Colorectal Cancer #1
well the phone rang last night....doc saying lung xray clear and cea down.....on Monday I will do liver scan but with the good cea I feel more confident

totally floored....could barely breathe....for newbies.....diagnosed in 05 with colon and moved to liver mets....total death sentence.....got resection.... chemo...more liver mets ...more resection and then xeloda and oxalylatin chemo.

sooooo I have been very quiet lately but watching and listening. I did not dream that I would still be going after i had so many dire things said to me. guess my message once again, do not give up no matter how dire it may appear.

Last night I just lay in bed and hubby read Anne of Green Gables to me and i drifted off to sleep....funny how much better one sleeps with a little confidence of living at least a few more months.....

I do not know why i continue to survive. I eat well but not perfection.....i exercise some but not enough.....I do not know

but here i am and on we go with all the best to everyone fighting......

    I loved reading your post, so encouraging to see you doing well. I hope your Ct is also good news. I have to share with my husband as he is on the same road, starting his second round of chemo and heading towards another liver resection. He needs to read your post.     How amazing is that? 2005 and here you are....I pray I go the same path. I was diagnosed last January Stage II, 2 cm x 3 cm tumor and 18" of my colon removed and a month later, Stage IV multiple mets to liver. Have gone thru Folfox w/Avastin then Avastin only but now have been on a chemo break since January 13th. I guess we can't predict how this journey will go. I pray your scan is clear. My last CEA was 1.0...I am so very hopeful but in the back of my mind I always have that tinge of fear. I'm so happy for you that you have survived this dreaded disease and done so well. I know what you mean about healthy eating and exercise; I try not to take even one day for granted and make sure I'm doing everything in my power to better my chances of living a long life. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Please update when you get the results.

    thank you for your thoughtful replies. There are more and more stage IV METS to liver survivors in my area. We are a small city of 20,000 and unfortunately there is no group for us to get together. Breast and prostate cancers both run get togethers but that is all.

    It is puzzling why we survive ...i know you have been thinking about this question Phil. I hope it does hope to all of you on the path...baby steps I guess.

    i was diagnosed with inoperable liver mets in the middle of a long cold snowy winter. There seemed to be no where to go and nothing to do but wait to die. Hubby read to me at night in bed.....that book The Travels of a Gentlewoman In Upper Canada.....written around 1850. it seemed to me that the stories of hardship, travelling by canoe....it all seemed to soothe me.

    Then a couple of weeks later we had a call from an onc who wanted me to meet with a very young liver surgeon.....tadahhhh that was in 06. Fear is still never far from the door....but that is my personality.....I do not like to fly too close to the sun.....hahah

    Congrats Mag, this is wonderful news. I do have a question for you though as I'm in Ont. too, but why do the oncs. not scan chest?? Why would you have a x-ray for lungs and a separate scan for liver?? Do x-rays show things better in the chest area over CT??
