soups
I seem to do good with soups. My wonderful wife made a big pot of veggie soup tonight. She adds ginger to the soup to help my stomach. After chemo I get cravings for all kinds of food. Jeff0 -
Never really got a craving
Never really got a craving for anything just tried to eat anything that was easy to throw up. During the really bad times PBJ and a sleeping pill. LOL!0 -

Food
Food was not a friend of mine doing chemo..I couldn't even watch a food commercial in tv. And there are a lot of them! When I did want to eat, homemade chicken pot pie was my favorite - not a good choice if you throwing up but I was blessed with the diaherra side effect.. But whatever I felt like eating my poor husband would have driven to the end of the earth to get it. If you are getting oxiplatin,,,think that is the one.. Nothing cold. I still can drink anything at room temp!
Mashed potatoes from Chili's was a fav too.0 -
hmmm
I only had actual cravings for things I couldn't have -- ice, cold drinks, cold food, ice cream -- and I am sure that is exactly why I had them because otherwise didn't want to eat anything at all.
So the following list is "things I could tolerate" sometimes while on chemo: grilled cheese sandwich, Lipton instant cup of soup chicken noodle, cream of wheat, saltines, graham crackers.

Scalloped potatoes...
I would bake a batch (Betty Crocker...out of the box) the day before infusion, since after I could NOT stand to smell food cooking (lol).
To this day, I list these little gems part of my 'comfort foods'...no trouble with memories of when I ate them...*smile*.

Hi Luckygirl...
thanks for the reply. I love that your husband would drive to the end of the earth for you. that's love!
Oxiplatin is one of the drugs i'm on too... that Neuropathy causes that cold drink and cold the touch. Man, that drives me crazy too.
thanks for the tip on chicken pot pie... and the Chilli's mashed patatoes. they both sound good to me... Maybe i'll ask my wife to drivce over there and get that for me soon. LOL.
my best to you.

I lived on rolled oats made on milk with a dollop of honey. I actually gained weight on chemo. Ron.
Ron
haven't tried that yet... but it does sound filling and tasty, without the sugar!
I'm looking for ways to gain some weight. Lost nearly 40lbs so far in 5 months.
(good thing i had 30 to loose... but this is getting a bit crazy)
thanks for this tip.

sad that our intake is related to the output when it comes to dealing with throwing up or diareha... but i completely understand.
I had non-hodgkins 23 years ago, and all radiation to the mid section... lots of vomiting that time.
this time, with colon cancer with mets to the liver... all chemo and lots of diareha.
Luckily i have a colostomy bag so the diareha is actaully easy.
Love PGJ... especailly on Toast with milk before bed... and that sleeping pill... about 3 our of 7 days a week.
Cheers!

anything that gave me a full feeling
I loved anything that gave me a full feeling, albeit temporary. During Chemo treatments and the next four days after, my body liquified everything and I passed it in an hour to 90 min. (FolFox for 6 months)
Bananas, Ginger cookies, ginger dried, ginger added to anything made my stomach settle. PBJ, Pizza, Marsalla, anything somewhat dense in mass quantities. I was eating like I was starved during chemo and still lost 45lbs.(21Kg)
After meals while sitting together with my wife, I would tell her put your hand on my stomach. It felt like I had cats in a fight.
Best Always! mike0 -

Mike
thanks for your post.
ginger seems to have come up a few times. I'm definatly going to try that soon.
I hear you on the cat fight in the stomach. Crazy!
also love that PBJ is a common food for several. Kind of reminds me of being a Kid again... maybe that's what Cancer is trying us to be again... kids with no fear of the future.
thanks again.
