What does it mean Tumor Present in Renal Vein margin?

Angec,
I know you asked this in another post and got no help. I'll attempt to answer from what little I can figure out, but it seems that this is bothering you and would warrant a telephone call to your doctor for a detailed and understandable explanation. I did a search for renal vein margin and everything I found was very technical. My reading of it is that if the pathology report says renal vein margin positive or that a tumor was present in renal vein margin it means that cancer cells were found in the renal vein, which is the large vein leading out of the kidney. That would be a Stage T3b pathology. This means to me that the patient is considered to be at a higher risk for metastsis than if the pathology report read negative for renal vein margin. This is why somebody with a small tumor size, who would normally be considered Stage 1, would be categorized as a Stage 3 on the pathology report -- because traces of the cancer were found in the renal vein. Again, this is my reading of it and I could be wrong, so please call your doctor.

Thank you so much Mike. I did ask the doctor but his answer was not very useful. I thank you for looking it up for me. You are a wonderful person. I also saw your link where you will not be visiting the boards. I think that is a smart decision as being here so often can drag you down and you need to be positive. Have a great life and continue to be positive as you have a good outlook and seem to be doing ok. I appreciate your help so much. Go on out and have tons of fun!! I hope to read your book.. let us know which ones they are. Angela0
