Very similar
Hi Linda, that, pretty much sounds like my case. I was diagnosed in middle of Jan. 2004 with SCC in base of tongue. I had some node involvement. Finished 38 rads in May and 5 courses of chemo in Aug. In August of 2005, I was driving down the street, talking to my sister and my voice "cracked". I jokingly said to my sister that it sounded like I was going through puberty again. Little did I know at that time. I hate to tell you this but my voice steadily got worse. I started back on hydrocodone again for the discomfort a few years ago. It is nowhere near as bad as the pain I had swallowing before the treatments. On an average day, I would say it runs between a 2 and 3. Friends and family finally got to the point that they could understand me on the phone. Right now, I can't talk due to a different surgery I had in June of last year. I'm still in remission according to my PET I had this past October. So, what I am trying to say is don't let it upset you and start thinking the worst. Aggressive radiation treatments do tend to get rid of the cancer but it does provide you with other problems years down the road.0 -
sore throats and stuff
I was just diagnosed (2 days ago) with stage 4 advanced (both sides of the neck invaded). After 2 months of being (mis) diagnosed with a bacterial neck infect strong too but my mind plays games.
My history is all of sudden in January I had huge lump appear all of sudden. Surgery for bacterial infection (which was indeed there). So was the cancer. Undetected. So here we are. I completely understand your anxiety. My throat hurts and my throat hurts for you.
Yesterday my neck blew up a bit (probably from the biopsies) . But I had chills (no fever) undoubtedly from anxiety. Went Back to the Cancer center and the resident did not know.
They started me on augmentin - This is my point - I was extremely anxious but now I feel better. But I don't have a clue if I actually have/had an infection. My gut feeling is our bodies tell us something is wrong.
I now get it reading these noted. The anxiety I feel will never leave. Let me know what happened.
ps. I cannot believe how young all this group is. Very disturbing all by itself. Very happy to have found this website today.0 -

YES
I have a lot of aches, pains, and sore spots...usually on the side which was infected.
If it makes you feel better go in and have your ENT scope you...I know I did several times the first year or so.
My ENT was always great about it and would rather I be proactive than reactive.
But, he does always re-assure me that I'll have these aches and pains for many years...the rads really is the treatment that keeps on giving.

Not sure exactly what you have been diagnosed with. But you have found a great forum and awesome group of people.
Many like yourself just starting out, several like myself that have been kicking around here for a few years now...and a ton somewhere inbetween.
We have a thread called the SuperThread, that has a ton of useful information and contributions from many members, and maintained by sweetblood22 (Dawn).

The anxiety factor will definitely stick around for awhile, but don't let it consume you. You'll get through this just like we all have. It's very doable, tough at times but worth the time invested.
While there are a few younger here, most are within the 40 and above crowd.
Best,
