Hello everybody..first off~~ God bless and prayers to EVERY single one of my soon to be Pink lady friends. I have been silently reading and watching discussions grow (old & new) since the day i joined this website shortly after being diagnosed myself. I just have to say the tears I have shed out of sadness and joy are tears of beauty in an all around sort of way> YOU all have touched me so with all of your heart felt genuine words of unconditional love and support to one another.
What a wonderful support family within itself..Thank you for advice and sharing your knowledge with positive energy. I learn as I read so I can know what to expect in my upcoming days.

    You've certainly come to the right place. So sorry you're here, but this forum has been a Godsend to me. I've gotten some great advice and wonderful moral support all along the way.

    yes i had the bilateral surgery last thursday so a week ago today with expanders put in and still ahve the drain bags- wow..is all i can say to all who have experienced and i know more to come but not sure what to expect. (I thought child bearing yrs were intense) Well, another day i am grateful for as its another day I pray for strong recovery and cure..for not only myself but ALL. Thank you to all the wonderful wishes from my lady friends i have never met but feel close at heart with. Your truly beginning to be my 2nd family and look forward to reading discussions at night while i slay here waiting for meds to kick in before I ease into a nights rest.(as best and comfy as I can)
    Not sure what to expect next..drain bags were not ready to come out today so I will get them out next tuesady so I am told but then see the oncologist for chemo. NOT EVEN sure why one gets chemo after the bilateral as its gone..correct? (the cancer? or is it just to kill off any remainder calcification spots- I know not a question to ask as we all are different with our pathology reports but am still learning this i guess..get confused between radiation and chemo and just not a reader on this all as it tends to get me down and really want to stay positive. Actually, this has been where i have been getting my insight and info from. Be well everyone and stay strong! xo `

    just a few suggestions ===
    .........

    Take pain medication when necessary.

    Multiple pillows in various, sizes help with sleeping on your back.

    Please have cups, saucers, plates at arm level - as well as re-arranging your fridge for more commonly used items at arm levels. Tide/Downy small container sizes - also at arm level. Reaching up and grabbing heavy items -- will tear your stitches, as well as hurt your arms. Muscles and tissue in breast, as well as arm areas will be cut, moved and sewn back together.

    I tried to take a bath ..but hence could not pull myself out of the our spa tub, no muscles or strength in my arms after bilateral mastectomy.. It took my husband, and daughter some time to pull me out of the tub == without hurting me. Not a pretty time, or sight to say the least. So I opted to shower ...My husband removed our shower head, and replaced it with a flex hose type so I could shower maneuvering the flex hose from waist down, as well as place shower water under my arms.

    Lastly, please make sure you do your exercises as prescribed by Plastic Surgeon, and Physical Therapist.

    Tissue Expander fills

    TE inserted at the time of my bilateral mastectomy. 3 weeks later, I had my first fill of 120cc per breast (my suggestion --- start of with a lesser dose of fluid). There is a pinch when the needle enters each breast -- and later there is a tightness due to the increase of fluids. Try try try 60 cc first go around to to gage what you will be dealing with. Just a suggestion.

    My health care insurance was running short -- so my fills, surgeries -- schedules,
    were fast paced.

    Ibuprofen taken 1 hours before fill helps, as well as frozen peas (lighter than an ice pack) placed on each breast to help with the inflammation due to fill.

    Ask Plastic Surgeon staff for tips!
