in Head and Neck Cancer #1
More testing on my hubby, we thought he was suffering from short term memory loss, come to find out he has ADD. Doctor said something like radiaiton posioning. I dont know, anymore. The one thing I know, is that the treatments jacked my husband up. But, he is alive. On the depressed side trying to figure out if he can leave the country and continue working offshore.

    it isn't my place to comment, but I will anyway:) I have read your recent posts, and it sounds like he's having a really rough time. Long term plans are great. Short term plans suffer when things are all messed up. It occurs to me that this isn't the time for him to be planning major stuff. Mostly just little steps, as in "lets get our act back together" type planning. Cause when things are all messed up and we add major plans on top of that, guess what? Well you already know the answer to that one.

    Too, ADD doesn't just pop up out of nowhere. It is a real diagnosis, and not uncommonly NOT diagnosed in adults if someone hasn't thought those thoughts long ago. But, there would have to have been signs of this from before the cancer and treatment. And that isn't all that's going on. ADD does NOT cause memory problems, it causes focus problems. AND it never causes balancce or gait problems.

    There will be many side effects to all the treatment, remember I am 7 years out of my last one and every week it seems like something new. Just love him and be by his side it may take a few years because everyone if different in how we recover from all the effects.

    My wife had to leave me for a few months to be with her 92 year old Mother who is not doing very well, she was torn between what to do because I need her as well. But I told her I have all my doctors and children here go and be with your Mother. It is hard being without her doing everything for me, I realize I have become a baby again depending on her for everything. The good news to this is that I am once again learning to be a man and doing for myself once again, oh but how I miss her.

    Have they done a brain CT?
    Sounds like the same side effects Jim had before the Normal Hydocyplus was diagnosed. Stumbling, short term memory loss, confusing, shuffling gait. Once the fluid is stabilized all symptoms are pretty much gone. It's worth asking.

    I would be suspecious of the ADD. I was diagnosed with that and put on meds. A year later my PC sent me for testing (psycological) and I was found to not have ADD.

    He had a MRI, and I am not
    He had a MRI, and I am not buying into the ADD thing. I just wanted to make sure he did not have any tumors on his brain. Being that he got the all clear from the MRI. I have decided to come up with my own conclusion. My husband received a large amount of radiation to his head and neck area along with chemo. There is obviously going to be some collateral damage and a very long healing time. yeah, we get impatient with the process. AND I think it's time for a reality check. My husband will never be his former self and this is our new normal. I am sure he will get a little better with time, but we will be one year out from treatment in May. I've been told that after one year whatever problems you have, you more than likely will have the rest of your life.

    I think it took Dawn more than a year to get to her new normal. I am praying that both our husbands get pretty close to their old self as much possible if not completely.

    Jim was diagnosed end of May 2012 and finished in August so he is not faar behind.
