Just an update

in Peritoneal Cancer #1
Have been having some abdominal discomfort for a few weeks now. Last CT and bloodwork done 3 mos. ago was good. This CT showed 3 new nodules and ca125 was up to 109 from the teens. Needless to say I will start chemo again this week . Will be taking Doxil. They say another company is making it and they can get it. I feel well except for the abdominal issue.
I guess this is to be expected but I was not expecting it so soon. I have been off chemo 9 mos.

    Hi Lulu: I, too, have been off chemo for awhile (since Nov 4) and can actually say I miss it! Well, not the side effects but the feeling that something was being done. I haven't had any new nodules since diagnosis April 2010, well not any that the scans have picked up anyways. I can't tell if I have abdominal discomfort or not as I have a large incisional hernia that dominates things down there. Keep us posted.

    My very first post to this board, you sent me encouraging words and hugs. I wish I had the right words that could somehow change your circumstances -but clearly that is not the case. Do take each day as it comes and enjoy the small victories. Hope you continue to feel well and that the side effects are minimal. I will pray that you get back to this remission point as I know you worked hard to get there in the first place.

    My mom too says she misses being treated just because she felt like she was so sick and now they are like," see you in three months!" It's a huge change.And my mom too has a huge hernia. terrible.

    Approved for Liver Surgery
    HI all: Just heard that the cancer board approved liver surgery for me to remove the small tumour. A first step towards getting the peritoneal surgery for the peritoneum nodules.

    Hi: Thanks Julie. A bit scary as I almost died when they removed the gallbladder, its tumour, and part of my liver where the tumour had invaded in April 2010 (a blood vessel in the liver burst or something so ended up with more surgery and 10 days in intensive care). But I think the more painful surgery will be the peritoneum stripping/HIPEC. I wish there were another way!
    You're in Australia right? If I've got that right, I'm so sorry about all the flooding there and the fires earlier. It has been a weird year everywhere it seems. We had such a warm winter, the plants and animals are confused!

    Good news
    Glad to hear your moving in the right direction -towards Hipec. My mom just had her first scan today after the first cycle of Gemcitibine/Cisplatin. The scan showed no disease progression. I guess this was the best possible news. We would like to keep this beast at bay for as long as possible. She started the next round today, so we'll see how it goes. Side effects still minimal.

    This is quite a roller coaster and we're strapped in for the ride. Keep posting so we know when your going in.

    Sounds like you had a really rough time last time - do hope this one is a bit more straightforward for you! Are you planning to have the full stripping surgery as well? I am having my debulking surgery on March 19th so looking forward to having that over and done with! Yes I am in Australia (Gold Coast). Thank you for thinking of us - it has been a weird year weather wise here with awful flooding right down the east coast and fires in the west! I guess we should get used to it but it always shocks. Always too much or too little water. Heading down to Sydney with my daughter this week for a few days for some special mother-daughter time so that will be fun I am sure.

    Peritoneal Stripping
    Hi Julie: Yes, they only do debulking with ovarian cancer patients. I'm not sure why they just couldn't do the HIPEC but ...
    I know the Gold Coast well. I spent quite a bit of time a few years back in Lamington National Park (I'm a birder). It was wonderful! I also spent a week or so up in Noosa. I was "adopted" by a wonderful couple - he is a travelling judge and she is a prison warden. I stayed at their place for a week. I loved it. Then 3 years ago I went to Tasmania. I loved that too - so many wonderful animals like wombats and echidnas. Now I would love to visit the west coast, north and south of Perth.
