36 hrs since surgery feeln ok
Im about 36 hours out of surgery and I feeling pretty good. Doc did a partial right nephrectomy with a 6-7 inch incision. The first 24 hours were really hard and they had alot of trouble controling my pain, finally Saturday morning we got it under control and I was able to get up and walk down the hall last night. Not sure if I will be getting out of the hospital today or Monday but either way I am so glad the first 24 hrs are behind me... I'm hoping I will be able to eat something today its been almost 4 days but nothing sounds good...any suggestions.... Doc is pretty sure it was Clear Cell RCC but he will give me the full details when the biopsy results come back. Just wanted to give you all a quick update. I will continue do so as the healing process continues. Thanks everyone for all your support- although having cancer sucked at least I got all of you as friends out this

Ultra high-speed recovery
Katy, that's absolutely great news and everyone here will be delighted to hear it BUT:
to all newcomers, don't think this is typical and that you should expect to be able to almost spring off the operating table, run to your car and drive home! Katy's achievement is wonderful and we must hope more RCC survivors will share this experience but it's fairly exceptional. I imagine you were in great shape Katy and you must have terrific pain tolerance. With luck this will see you make a record-breaking high-speed total recovery. Just, please, don't push the boat out too soon and set yourself back by overdoing it. That said, more power to your elbow girl!0 -

Katy,
That wasn't so bad, was it? No pain. Yeah.
Can you help me out with the newcomers starting next week?
As Tex says don't overdue it. A young mother last year went on a roller coaster 3 months after surgery. Don't do that. Wait at least 6 months for that and a bit longer for that bungee jump.
Best wishes,

Hi Katy,
So happy to hear you are doing well! Take it easy and rest up and let your body heal. Pay attention to how you feel when you try and attempt any activity and don't overdo it. Take care.
Blessings,
Lisa
Yea! Katy! So glad to hear you are making great progress. Be our inspiration. Just don't over do it. And as Iceman says, "Stay off the roller coasters!"0 -

Happy for you, and glad to hear it is going well day by day. Like the rest of you friends say. easy does it!
Thanks all for the support. I was discharged yesterday afternoon and not very happy at that time, I thought it was a little early since I was still experiencing quite a bit of pain. Now almost 24 hours later I feel good. Seem to have the pain under control with the oral pain meds but it is def true what they say stay on top of it and take it as directed. Still experiencing some pain when I take a really deep breath is this normal? And it stil feels like a shark took a bite out of my side... My docs name is Dr. Sharp my mom says maybe we should start calling him Dr. "Shark" lol Yesterday at this time I never thought I would be feeling this well... but I know I still have a long road ahead and I am going to take it day by day and am in no way going to over do it. I still don't have much of an appitite is this normal? Seems the only thing I feel like eating is toast and I have to almost force myself to eat that. I will continue to keep you posted and just hope things continue to improve as they have over the last 24-48 hours. Thanks again everyone you have helped me through this and I am so greatful to have people to talk to who have been through this.

Katy,
When I was discharged the doctor wrote on the discharge summary that I was discharged without pain. I don't know who he was referring to.

Hi Katy,
Next time you should try Dr. Dull. Home in near record time, way to go. Practically everything you are experiencing is normal, the only thing that tasted good to me for the first week post-op was chocolate shakes and I'm not usually a chocolate shake kinda guy. Most of your pain including the odd stuff associated with breathing, moving around, etc. should subside quickly over the next week and you should be able to taper off the meds starting at about week 2, finding them helpful at night past that is normal. Constipation is commonly associated with being on pain meds so that bears mentioning. The two best things you can do for yourself right now are drink plenty of water and walk, both will help speed your recovery. Soon this will all be a distant memory.
Hang in there,

Hey there, I did the partial 1/19, and a deep breath was out of the question, imagine - sneezing - so they had me on anti-histamines for a month...
Even now, if I have a full meal, the side hurts...rest assured, the pain is expected, some parts of the incision, you won't have feeling, they cut some nerves...Dr. wife says..
But, all in all, you are doing OK..
