You might check the Peritoneal Cancer discussion board. I have secondary peritoneal cancer resulting from gallbladder cancer diagnosed in April 2010. There was a discussion awhile back about peritoneal mesothelioma.

My dad passed away on December 4, 2011. He was 66 years old. He was diagnosed in May 2010. We all stayed very positive through it all. We took one day at a time. Are you in the New York Area? I could recommend the surgeon he used. First he had chemo to shrink the tumor. After that he went in for surgery to remove the left lung and part of the diaphram. The surgeon came to us to tell us that it was inoperable. After that he had radiation which really kept it at bay for a long time. He also tried a chemo pill. He was part of a study. He was filling up with fluid on the lining of the lung in the beginning when we 1st found out and they put a drain in to drain the fluid.
Anything I can do to help you please feel free to contact me.
You are in my thoughts and prayers.

My mom's diagnosis is Primary Peritoneal Cancer, stage 4, since April of 2009. She was diagnosed due to cancerous fluid in her lungs. She only had 3 small tumors in her abdomen, but had a scattering of cancer cells throughout her abdominal cavity at the time.
Has your cancer been staged yet? I am sorry to hear about your diagnosis and wish you the best. My mom was told at time of diagnosis that it would be treated like a chronic disease.

Peritoneal Meso
I hope you log back on. I was diagnosed after a hysterectomy also at age 39. Guess what, I will turn 49 this year. I will not say it was easy but I was so lucky that it was discovered by accident. I did the chem and then went to Omaha to see Dr Brian Loggie. His surgery is nothing short or a mirical. Lots of recovery needed afterwards but I DID recover. There is hope. Look at the web site of M.A.R.F

Hi Liz!
I am so glad to find someone else who has survived this. I had the HIPEC surgery (debulking and hot chemo) in October 2011. I just had my first 6 month follow-up at the end of March and I still have No Evidence of Disease. (Yea!!!) I would love to talk with you more, since you know exactly all the emotions and fear that go along with this. My personal email is baseballgirl71@gmail.com. Hope to hear from you soon.

My mother in law has meso. and is struggling trying to find emotional support. She had fluids drained, then lung scraped and syhthetic diaphram. Recently she spent a week in Columbia Presb. to get blood clots dissolved. She refuses pain killing medication and is interested in sharing with someone but doesn't know where to reach out. There isn't much direction in that regard, and I am suspecting it is due to deadliness of disease and survival time. Can you help in any way with direction or even a phone call to her or she to you. awesome85@netzero.net Wayne0 -

ElissaHi bbg71
It might raise your spirits a bit to read of Stephen Jay Gould's story ... he was Dx'd with the same as yourself, at age 41, and told the median survival time was (at that time) 8 months, but he proved that statistics are just numbers and lived for a further 20 YEARS ... another, totally unrelated tumour finally did for him.
He wrote about it here:

Be well and stay positive
Roger (Stage 0 Lymphocytic leukaemia, Diagnosed last year, at age 72 ... luckily I am symptom free and determined to at least match my mother's span of 93 years!!)
