Low grade Phyllodes Tumor

I had a core biopsy on my breast this past Monday. They called me with the results that I have a low grade Phyllodes tumor at the 12 o'clock position on my left breast. I have been having other issues before the lump showed up two weeks ago. I feel very tired, pain in my kidney position on both sides with no explanation, and now this lump with pain. Can someone please help me figure this out?

    Your kidney pain and fatigue
    Your kidney pain and fatigue should be checked out by your primary care doctor because you may have stones or an infection. These issues are not likely to be related to your breast tumor at all. Low-grade phyllodes tumors are tumors that are due to overgrowth of the cells that support the glands of the breast. Low-grade tumors rarely metastasize but may arise again or recur if they are not completely removed. So usually the treatment involves surgical removal with a "wide margin". With low grade tumors, you're unlikely to have to undergo radiation or chemo, but this really depends on what your final pathology report says and what your doctors decide for you. I hope this helps.

    Did your doctor say your phyllodes was benign or cancerous? Some are benign, some are cancerous. There are a few women on here with it. There is a young woman on here who knows a lot about it. I can't remember her name, but she has recently posted. I think her dad is an oncologist,too, but I may be wrong. Definitely call your doctor so they can investigate and find out what is up. I hope it is something that is easily taken care of.

    Hi,

    Time will help figure it all out. Lots of doctors visits, tests, treatments etc. I'm glad you found a place to voice your quesitons. I agree to get the other issue checked out by your pcp. It's not an easy ride, but it has highs and lows just like life. Try to take it in stride and shout out here when you need to.

    Kidney pain and fatigue
    They have ran all kinds of tests with no answers at my pcp. Was referred to urologist but had to cancel appt to have biopsy done. The biopsy was this past Monday and my breast lump is noticeably larger. Have pain all the way down that arm too. Just started that a few hours ago.

    I haven't gotten to see the dr yet. But the lab report says low grade Phyllodes. All the research I have on it says that it is rare.

    Low grade tumor
    Irronically just two weeks ago I was diagnosed with a rare "secretory carcinoma" of the breast. This is also a low grade, rare tumor. I am one year post treatment for Anal Cancer that was treated with chemo/radiation and doing well along those lines. I met with my doctor today to discuss treatment for the breast cancer and has told me that as stated earlier I will need a mastectomy in order to remove it all clearly. He will take only 1 or 2 lymph nodes and after studying them, he will decide for sure on chemo. He said no radiation and in almost all cases no chemo for these types of low grade tumors. I may opt to have both breast removed for a couple different reasons. I feel as tho I will feel more symetrically????balanced, and also to lower the risk (with my history) of cancer in the other breast. These low grade cancers account for less than 1 percent of all breast cancers and are considered to have a positive (good) outcome. My thoughts are with you and pray for healthy outcomes for all of us.

    With a biopsy they won't be able to definitely say if your Phyllodes is truly benign, borderline or malignant. This can only be determined by excision. Phyllodes are not known to metastasize often and the typical spot is to lungs, liver and brain. There is an online "Phyllodes support group" of over 200 survivors on Facebook that may also be able to help answer any questions you might have as well.

    I had a wide excision of a low grade Phyllodes tumor one week ago. Hang in there and feel free to private message me. The amazing young lady on here who has had it since she was a teen is "hootiegirl". She has a lot of info. :)

    Hi! Although these tumors are rare, there are quite a few women on here who have some great advice/information. The official pathology after you have a lumpectomy/mastectomy is important because treatment options are different for malignant and benign tumors. I hope everything is going well. I have been dealing with a metastatic malignant phyllodes tumor for over a year and a half now, so feel free to private message me if you have any questions!
