Roger
As a lifelong pot smoker, I think you may want to give it a whirl. I use a vaporizer now as I am freaked out about smoking anything! I gave up tobacco before I had my cancer but they say it was smoking that caused mine (I had been a heavy smoker for about 35 years)
Can you get a sample to try to see if it is truly something you like?
How expensive is the license? We don't have that option in Ohio which I find ridiculous.
Keep us updated what you do!

Ganga Mon...
Roger, someone on here, can't remember who at the moment...well, I think I remember but just incase I'm wrong....LOL.
But someone on here has spoken of using medical marijuana, more than likely they'll chime in.
BTW, the medical marijuana is different than street corner weed...don't have the same reservations about using it for what it's intended.

"Think I'll roll another number for the road"
(Neil Young reference)
In the late 80s, in Texas of all places, my mom was fighting ovarian cancer and metastasis of breast cancer to the brain and she was provided prescription THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, in pill form, to help with pain and especially appetite.
She delighted in rubbing it in to her sons that she was NOW the pothead in the family , but the point is that that may be another way to pursue the 'weed' option, without risking damage to your lungs, oral cavity, trachea, or esophagus.
Just a thought.
Best wishes.
Take care,

Depends on what you want
In 1998 when I had my first cancer, I stopped altogether doing any of the things that might increase my risk of a second cancer. I don't smoke, drink or do weed. Not that I am a prude, because I used to. You can see where that got me personally- I got a second cancer anyway.
The official medical posture on smoking THC is that there is nothing accomplished by doing this that cannot be obtained in other ways. I don't know if that's true or not, just that this is the official AMA-backed attitude.
There are about 200,000,000 people in this country who do marijuana without a license. There are about 4 who do have a license. If you chose to do THC, I'm just not certain the license is a very necessary part of the endeavor. Others may disagree with this.

Weed
Hi Roger,
I had a prescription for it going through treatment and found it helpful. I would also recommend the vaporizer for more accurate dosing as taking it orally is really hard to get just right. Often it ends up being too much which is not always a pleasant experience. You can really dial it in just right for you with a little practice. It certainly increases appetite, lifts mood, aids sleep and decreases pain. It does come with its own set of side effects but I found them to be much less than any other med that the docs handed out freely. The license is nice to have as it brings some legitimacy to the whole thing. Getting it at a legal dispensary is nice too as they generally have many varieties that have different effects and staff that can steer you toward the right variety based on your symptoms. Good luck.

I certainly think using marijuana medically has great merits, in an approved state or not, synthetic or plant based. I think the idea to try some and see what you think is a good one. If you choose to smoke it then purchase a good quality vaporizer. Joe is right about the synthetic version , known as "Marinaol". marijuana generally is a safer alternative to your side effects than conventional medicine with the added benefit that it just makes you feel good. Won't be much downside but could really make a difference in your recovery and quality of life. Go for it but don't smoke it.0 -
Fried Eggs and you brain on weed
Hi Roger, like Nancy I was a lifer. I quit probably ten years ago or so because I began to experience repetitive though syndrome, not night terrors just feelings of unease, and that's not an uncommon side effect of long term users.
Anyway, when I started it was 10 bucks an ounce, a "lid." Today's medical stuff IS the street stuff here in CA. For about 200.00 bucks I saw a doc. The waiting room was full of people when I went back to the habit during cancer treatment, but they didn't look like medical patients. The medical shops you go to here have extremely strong stuff, from $30 and eighth of an ounce, to way more.
I used to use vaporizers, never liked them. When I smoked it during treatment, it would only take one to three hits to do the job, not much on the lungs. Marijauana has been shown many times to be less harmful on the lungs than tobacco. But the point is, as I said, you're already weak from treatment, and it just won't take much. But get a vaporizer if you like.
It worked for me. It worked for nausea when the pills wouldn't, and it made me hungry even though the food still tasted like, as Sweet says, cardboard with paste on it. And if not a longtimer like I was, it will brighten your mood without ill effect.
I quit when I started getting some taste and appetite back. Don't watch "Reefer Madmess" to learn how to smoke it though. Those guys really know how to waste good dope.
