Uterine cancer can lead to breast cancer

Last Dec, I was diagnosed with 1b uterine cancer, I had a full hysterectomy and 3 brachy treatments,,I am now on Bioidentical hormones and I feel marvelous..except for one nagging comemnt I read somewhere that women who have had uterine cancer are more than likely to develop breast cancer,,I am 60 years old and Life is Good for me !! As you can see I have been losing some sleep over this,,I wonder where to research this nasty tidbit !!

    Using hormones
    Hormone therapy is no longer recommended for any woman post menopausal after the Womens Health Initiative Study was done. Bioidentical hormones are actually synthetic and not studied. I have not heard if there is a higher risk of breast cancer with uterine cancer. I would not take the hormones even if I had never had any female cancer. I am not sure what type of uterine cancer you have had or if it was tested for hormone receptors. I think the risk is not worth it.

    My oncologist told me lung cancer.
    After being diagnosed with endometrial stromal sarcoma (2000), I would have a ct scan and chest x-ray every 3 months. My oncologist said this cancer's favorite place to go was the lungs. I still only had to have 1 mammogram a year during treatment, but several chest x-rays.

    I am living proof that it goes to the lungs. One year later it popped up, so then came the chemo and now I am in remission with 2 clear chest x-rays down. I am hoping to stay here for quite a long time.

    Did you have uterine cancer first ?

    Im sorry I didnt get notice of your reply to my question about uterine cancer leading to breast cancer...I had Stage 1b and had a full hysterectomy in Dec.I have been on Bioidenticals since Feb, I couldnt stand the hot flashes and no sleep for 2 years..hair was falling out and weight gain was terrible,,my quality of life to me was depressing,,since being on these hormones,,I sleep 7 hours,, no hot flashes and Im back weight training and lost 8 lbs,,If I was to pass on tomorrow,,it was worth it,,,life is great !!!
    How are you making out....did you have a hysterectomy or brachy treatments>>

    I've got both
    "They" told me there is no known relationship between uterine and breast cancers, but the risk factors for both are the same, primarily prolonged exposure to unopposed estrogen. I'm 63 and I have both at the same time. My breast cancer is estrogen receptive. Don't know about the uterine yet as I just had a total hysterectomy and bilateral salpingoopherectomy 07/01. You'd have a hard time convincing me that having one doesn't put you more at risk for the other - simply because they both seem to like the same environment to grow in - me!

Well, I'm getting mine over and done with at one time!

    Glad you caught things early. Women sure have a double whammy - a bit discouraging. We need to raise awareness and get the proper research done.

    Breast cancer, Tamoxifen, and uterine cancer
    Read about how treatment of breast cancer with Tamoxifen increases the risk of endometrial cancer. I think this explains much of the association between the two cancers. While it is not that unusual for breast cancer survivors who have taken Tamoxifen to develop cancer of the uterus down the line, there is no proven relationship the other way around.
