Hi Roger, you said a mouth full. Chemo for five months absolutely sucks. I'm surprised your head isn't shrunk by now, but, I bet the tumors are. Fatigue was tough for me too. I alwys felt like I'd just been out way too long in the sun. Everything was heavy. Depression too. Went to a counselor who was a good listener, but so's my TV. I was taking antidepressant but it wasn't doing squat. A doc said, well lets double the dose. I was on low dose antidepressant, but had high grade depression. It made all the difference in the world for me.

Scan Results
My wife and I met with my oncologist today to discuss the results of the full body CT scan I had on Monday. It was a good news/bad news kind of thing, but I think it was more positive than negative. Some of my lung tumors shrunk, some stayed the same, and some grew a bit. Since the last time when all of them had shrunk, we had reduced my cancer med a bit to try and hurt me less. Since this drug is still working, the Doc says we are going back to full concentration to try and batter these little demons into submission. But, this time we will do a three week course instead of a 4 week course. We are hopeful that this will not cause me such terrible side effects. The other good news here is that the cancer has not spread to any other organs, so that is very good news. So, now I get a two week break after Sunday and then when I start back again, it will be at the full strength of this drug. Then, in about 3 months, they will scan me again to see how things are going. If I absolutely cannot tolerate this, then we will move to another drug. I am not anxious to do that because this one is working and I have at least learned what it does to me. So, I have my license to live for another 90 days and I am going to go and do exactly that.

I'm glad to hear this news, Roger. That license is all any of us had, on temporary loan. The window between treatments, however brief, will be wonderful for you too. Here's to you, sir.

My husband is in pretty much the same place as you and the chemo is getting rougher since it is cumulative. Lots of fatigue. His tumors are responding, as well, so we will definitely complete the 8 cycles allowed. He just finished cycle 5 and ct scan showed more shrinkage. His tumors are in the liver. Btw...Andy is on carboplatin, paclitaxel, and a trial drug. Any similarities to your cocktail?

Hi, Robin. Thanks for the reply and the encouragement. I hope your husband continues to improve against this horrible disease. My chemo is actually in pill form and it is called Sutent. This was chosen for me by a genetic sequencing done with a sample of a tumor from one of my lungs. My doctor was not sure how to treat this very rare cancer, so the genetic sequencing was important to give him a starting point. So far, the results are promising after being given a virtual death sentence from some cancer experts at a major university. I try to remain hopeful, but I have so many things going on at once that it is very hard to picture any kind of a future.
