    What to expect
Hi Barbar_g, sorry to hear of your diagnosis, and glad you found your way here early,
I was Base Of Tongue (BOT) cancer, and had radiation treatment for 35 days, 3 chemo sessions, and surgery on my neck to remove lymph nodes.

Depening on whether the tumor appears to be isolated or has spread a bit, you will have some type of surgery, and then radiation treatmentsm or chemotherapy, or both.

It will definitely take you out of your routine for a few months, but there are many survivors here who are working and living int he world just fine with the same or similar treatment. Talk with the doc, see about getting a team together that you like, you don't have to take any doc that shows up. Then get treatment.

Here is a link that includes earlier threads from the board on most every subject, and also outside links for about any general question you might have.

See the doc, try to calm your mind, and keep us posted.

    best, Hal

    It will depend
on where the primary cancer is located. Adenocarcinoma is a particular cell pattern, that of gland-forming cancer, which can arise from many different sources. If your primary is unknown, you will first need a workup to see where this came from. Only then will treatment be entertained. This is a very difficult time of the process for all of us. The wait seems unending. Please come back and talk often.

    Best to you.

    Neck Cancer
I have adenocarcinoma. Mine is a ductal cell carcinoma of the right parotid salivary gland with nerve involvement. I hope and pray that yours turns out better than mine. Mine is extremely rare and dangerous so hopefully yours will be better. I wish you good luck in your journey.

    Salivary ductal carcinoma

How are you?  My husband was just diagnosed with the same cancer as yours (Salivary ductal carcinoma).  He just had surgery to remove the parotid gland and lymph nodes in the neck as it had sprea. 2 facial nerves had to be sacrificed and doctor not able to get clear margins.  We are trying to determine best therapy now.  Neutron radiation or standard radiation?  is any type of chemo effective to prevent recurrence or further spread?  Would appreciate any information you are willing to share about your experience.  this is such a rare cancer.  Not many people have/have had it.  Thank you.
