Spices & Herbs
One site I've been using is iHerb.com, but lately turmeric has been out-of-stock, with no date of fulfillment...frustrating!
Thanks ladies,

sourcing herbs and spices
I buy many of my spices and herbs from The Spice House near Chicago
http://www.thespicehouse.com/
They are an excellent source and their website is wonderful and informative.
For small quantities, I use my local health food store where I can get the spices out of bins in whatever quantity I want.0 -
Spices and herbs
You might want to look at http://www.starwest-botanicals.com
I bought my Turmeric there (1#) and put it in my freezer.....lasts a VERY LONG time!!
I like the fresh Turmeric at Whole Foods although it is a bit pricey....very easy to just slice and eat....much better taste that the powder I take a piece of whole grain bread, some hummus, sliced turmeric, pepper, drizzle of olive oil and some cucumber slices. (Works for regular turmeric as well).
Good eating! Karen0 -

Ignorant I must be, for I too shop at Whole Foods but have never seen raw turmeric; would have no idea what it LOOKS like.
Can anyone describe it? Had no idea we could eat it raw!
Thanks,

Rosey....I get mine at Whole Foods. The appearance somewhat resembles small ginger root....I honestly had not noticed them until recently. I just happened to see the sign.
Happy gnawing!

So appreciate the input. I've been purchasing what Karen suggested -- Starwest-Botanicals as they're organic. Found iHerb.com has this same product for a few $$$ less, but OOS now. Guess need to go directly to the company.
Cindy didn't see that penzeys.com has "organic"?? I always go for organic in anything unless way too expensive.
Raw turmeric? Are you kidding? Gosh I have enough time getting used to raw ginger...had no clue about turmeric.
Anyone had luck finding some raw dark chocolate or what they call "cacao"? Guess that'll be in Whole Foods, just check next time in their store. From my research finding cacao has higher antioxidants than even the powerhouses blueberries and pomegranates. NOTE -- if Whole Foods doesn't have something on their shelves, they generally will order if in their warehouse. Tried this a few times with supplements during my chemo days.
